Yeah speggey i'd like to know a little more detail..What were the criteria for rating the cards and why did the M-audio & Terratec score higher than the others..
It'll really help me in choosing one coz i was thinking of either the fa66 or the firebox..i was inlcined more towards the firebox as it has some solid reviews & is supposed to work right out of the box..Presonus is also known for its great preamps..
As far as i've heard m-audio 1814 has lots of driver issues..I have the firewire audiophile and i'm not happy with it either..i wonder why it got such a high score..thanks!

I guess it was very overall.
Quality, drivers, software and performance was some criteria.
Don't have the test available right now, but here's some data.
Latency:Dynamic range(dB):THD+noise(?):
Frequency 40Hz-15KHz dB(A)
Edirol FA-66
10.542ms : 103,6 : 0,0079 : +0.10, -0.12
Focusrite Saffire
10ms : 103,4 : 0,0012 : +0,01, -0,05
M-Audio Firewire 1814
512 samples : 108,4 : 0,0004 : +0,04, -0,04
Presonus Firebox
10ms : 99,5 : 0,0018 : +0,03, -0.11
Terratec Phase X24FW
440 samples : 108,4 : 0,0003 : +0,05, -0,04
Hehe, hope u can read and understand it
edit: I also found some recordings done with the terratec card, I'll find the link for you if you're interested. |

Ok.
U got me wrong, Harddrives usually are faster than that, so I guess it's a good way to test the speed of the firewire port? Anyways it was tested that way and what I meant was that the firewireport was capable of transfering data in 34 mb/s.

How did you see the diference? blipps and blopps in sound when working with large files? or latency? |

Ok, No me neither.. but in the test on that page it's a bit faster ~10 mb/s faster. But the main thing is that it's way lower cpu load with firewire. So maybe it works fine, maybe not.
I actually managed to get a creative pci card into the computer, but it's really thight, side to side with the hot graphic card. Don't know if that's a good solution either... |
