Machinima? pls help

hello forum!
I was watching some "machinima", you know, those movies and novels using videogame technology.
I study anthropology and would be really interesting to use it to ilustrate the life of a specific culture or tribe.
I am totally noob at games nowadays.
Could you give me a tip of what kind of game would be better to use?
I saw many machinima using "Halo 2". Really cool gaphs, but i dont knows if it fits to my objective. I've never played but Halo seems more war stuff, weapons, soldiers
I guess i would need something that has more religion stuff
One game i saw machinima about religion is "Drunescape". I saw one version to download but was not sure because the graphs seemed worst than the movie. Maybe theres a better version.

I dont know much about this stuff but I listen to chiptunes/8-bit music and one of the artists, Glomag, makes machinima. Try looking him up.
