Wow, thats a lot! i could even get someone to make music for me with that money hehe.
Pc laptop is what i have now, and everything new comes with vista(which i have also) Vista sucks, maybe in a couple of years will be good, once processors double their power, and 4 gb of ram is a standard
I think ill go Mac, because of being able to play vst live, for performances, logic, and overall coolness.
So ill have to warn the credit card and my pocket hahaha.
Im selling my ibook too.
Thanks to everyone!

Hi, i have a question.
Im currently using a laptop for music production, with this specs
amd athlon x2 64 1.73ghz, 2 gb ram, 120gb hdd, and sad but true using windows vista.
For audio interface, im using a zoom g9.2tt(guitar fx pedal with usb interface)
m-audio oxygen 8 midi controller
Using this software: Fl studio 6, cool edit pro 2, audition 2, guitar rig 2, reason 3.
Also own an ibook, really old actually 600mhz, 386mb ram, 30gb hdd, i use it only to record ideas on the fly while playing guitar, for some games, and school work.
Want to get another computer for better performance, while producing.
With this actual computer, works fine just in some things, actually this is a replacement for a laptop i used to have, that was stolen, with this specs amd sempron, 512 mb ram, win xp, and i would say it worked better, less crashes, etc.
Vista sucks.
So i was thinking about a desktop computer, with intel core 2 duo at 2 ghz or better, 2 or more gigs of ram, a big hdd, and win xp.
Or a macbook, and make use of bootcamp, to install win xp.(would also try to learn on mac software to use the mac side of it, i will be using it at school too)
And use the same production software i currently have, and the zoom g9.2tt as the audio interface, but if there is something better not that expensive let me know too.
Which one will give me a better performance?
is the macbook able to run vst in a live performance? this would be a cool thing to take it with the oxygen 8 to play live with a vst.
thanks for your attention!

if you have the fund i 'd say go with mac pro. yes.. you ll be able to run Bootcamp along with it (XP installed). I did the exact same thing over a year ago and i believe it was the best desicion,
BTW, dont forget to grab a copy of Logic Studio. Its worth every cent.
hope that helps.

I just switched to Mac. I'm super happy with it, I use Ableton. However be prepared to have less warez available, so stuff like Waves you are going to have to buy.
Using a Mac has kinda essentially made me go straight with buying software, which is cool, and makes me pretty happy. Of course there's still a bunch of free VST/AU plugins, recently I realized smartelectronix released a lot of AU version of their stuff.
I just got a Kaosspad3 for xmas, which I know is mostly used for DJing. I haven't got much hardware, but as a neat effects processor, I'm going to try using it as a neat hardware send effect/filter and see how that works. Thinking about getting a Virus KC as well, going to move towards some real hardware, seems like if I'm going to pay for something I might as well get hardware
The transition from PC to Mac was a little rough trying to get replacements for a few things, but I think it'll be worth it because I really don't like windows. Of course if you're going to use bootcamp, you won't experience all this transition issues, but there's no way in hell I'm putting Windows on my Mac |

Having switched to mac, I bought Logic Studio which has most of the plugins I need and great instruments and presets. It felt good to get legit software.
I do miss some plugins that I used to use a lot like the L3, some PSP plugins, the Sonalksis bundle etc... will cost quite a lot to buy this as well
All in all mac will cost more because of the price of the computer and the plugins, but so far for me it runs much more stable, and overall that has made it worth it.

you might consider removing 1 gb of ram then ... because actually, in win xp, 2 gb work in double mode whitch is faster than 3 gb.

Go for Mac mAN.. Logic 8 is a step foward, compared to any sequencer in my opinion. Cubase is good but it is not stable, even if u hv a fucking great computer. If u can hv a spair computer for using windows, fine.. so u could hv both of worlds.
BUT logic - MAC is the way, no matter what they say.
good luck!

Thanks everybody for your answers!
Im going for Mac thats for sure now, im just asking my bank account hehe, looking for places that offer credit, ive found some but in one place they had the older macbooks that run at 2.16 ghz.
In other place they had the basic one that runs at 2.0ghz(new model with fsb at 800mhz)
Its there a big difference between intel core 2 duo at 2.0ghz and the one at 2.2ghz?
There are some other differences but not that relevant to me like dvd burner and bigger hdd on the higher model
Again Than you everybody

The core duo is faster than the core duo at the same Ghz, something like 50% faster they say, it might not be that much but it is significant. You can see the benchmark results via google search.
The older macs have core duo, so it might be worth it to get the Core 2 Duo really... see if you can get a student discount when buying the mac, its 10% off which can a lot of money at mac prices
