ok, i know probably a lot of people have asked this before.
but i still have my doubts, why is it mac much better than pc as far people say?
a lot of people say that mac is for rich people why is that? maintainance is high?
can pc still make better quality than apple?
i dont know.
if i have an apple laptop, just for lives, but i make music with a pc, would this be a problem?
is it true that apples are going to start running windows to or vice versa?
i hope somebody can help me out with this questions.
thanks guys

Hi safa,

A mac is not neccesssarily better than a pc.... in general its just a lot less hassle from the operating system. ie osx vs windows..

a mac is not for rich people only!!! yes it has become a fashion statement of late, but if ur a student you can get a great discount.... if ur not, try and match the equivallent specs on a pc and see how much more your actually paying... my mac which i have had for more than 3 years is still running the latest software, plugins etc.. with no real processing problems

maintanance on a mac is cheap cuz it doesnt break down so much, spares are really expensive though... battery, ram, etc that is compared to pc's/laptops

Can a pc make better quality than apple?? depends on who's behind the mouse!!!

Yes apples are running windows, on bootcamp, for intel based macs, the fuckup with that is that while you can succesfully run 2 platforms, your very prone to catching pc virus'es which are pretty much non existant on macs...

Why would you want an apple laptop JUST for live sets, when ur working on a pc?? that just doesnt make sense to me.... stick to one platform... and really master it...

Hope i helped..

Mac is better than pc for basically the same reasons why pc is better than mac.

2006, realize.

I see mac for creative working such as music, graphics, video. Windows is a bureau-machine, it's like a more advanced calculator (that doesn't work well).

You get allot of very good software directly with your mac. It nearly doesn't crash anymore, OS X is just a really cool system. and the prices are now adapted to the market, which means they aren't more expensive. Beside that, you get loads of cool stuff (software, front row, isight) with your mac, that you don't get with a PC.

The only disadvantage I could find in music production is, that there are more freeware Plugs for windows than for mac. Anyway, everything I need (and much more) is working.

hey i just managed to get my bearings using cubase 3 on windows, and now at university i bought myself a mac book - so just wanted to check - does cubase work on macs? or is there like a different version of cubase for macs? or is there another program altogether which is a lot like cubase?           www.soundcloud.com/ishikawa

Safa!
There were times when Mac computers were better off for audio work. These times are over, although the Mac OS is a more convenient system, there is no advantage to Mac computer, especially that today's Macs are equipped with Intel CPU.

And as to portability problem - there are many portability problems in Audio apps: there are VST's that exist only for Mac or PC, so if you want to run your tracks from withing the arranger ( sequencer ), you may get troubles.

And as for price, Mac is more expensive INDEED. And it is worth it, since you get stability, etc., but still it is more expensive, so If economical aspect is important - STICK to the PC until Apple get real and decide to take more of the Desktop shares, and decrease seriously the prices.

And as for the statement that Mac is for creativity and PC is for office - this is ... unbased. The system can do whatever you want. It depends on software you use, and your talent, so don't blame Windows.

And as a side note, I am not biased to Windows at all, I am eventually a linux fan.

Regards,
boa tarde, Safa.

Orange vs. Yellow - which do you prefer?

This question is exactly as important as 'Mac vs. PC'.

In my recent experience, Macs and PCs are as stable as each other, ie. both crash now and again especially when they're not maintained properly. There are slight useability differences but these are purely a matter of taste as to which you prefer; one is not 'better' than the other.

In general I've found that rabid enthusiasts/fanboys for either Mac or PC have just spent a lot of money on it and are trying to justify their decision           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

I daresay, once you start building up a serious studio, 1k$ up or down is not the MAIN issue. So, you get there after you already are hooked on either PC or Mac, and there you stay.

OTOH, when you're a beginner, you want to start a budget limited setup, so you optimize, and as to now, PC wins the price/performance ratio: The not-too-high-end PC is more than "good enough" for an audiophile, while the Mac is 1.5-2 times more expensive... so, given both PC and Mac run on the same type of hardware - one can only gain "quality of service" type of things in buying Mac, and this is almost never an issue.

Cheerz.

Cubasing is like Freebasing, just with audio.
Both cost more than you can afford, and leaves you sitting in a dark room with no life, craving for more.

well i remember something like 2 years ago i was working with pc... and i loved the vsts, pc games, and msn messenger haha, but i moved to mac because i was working with logic and i remember having thousands of crashes for anything not only cracked version but the dongled one (v5.5), but on mac... when crashes its because some audio unit is out of date (because im logic 7 now) but updates come quick enough to fix that, anyway i find mac more stable than pc, ive never seen any virus pop up in here, or any anoying message , so my advice is that mac is way more stable than pc's at the time of professional work this means audio, video or design (im not bashing pc's, its just the way it is).

Pd... mac is not more expensive , their prices are acording to the needs of everyone, of course if u are about to produce a blockbuster hollywood film u will need the 8000 dlls and more. and the price is because this gives u technic support that any other company will give (most pc users build their own one).
