well i can only speak from my own experiences but here goes...soundcard:check out www.rme-audio.com they have pro soundcards at affordable prices...m-audio is a bit cheaper but should also work. there is also the choice of creamware cards but they are not for everyone as some have problems with them. still a good choice though.
as for a sound editor i think you will like tc-works spark editor it´s strong selling point is it´s extremely fast processing.also check out bias peak one of the oldest editors on the mac but still a very good one...hope this has helped you somewhat in the right direction.           Mastering available here:

Hi there fechen,

Do you know wich OS you plan to use?

There is still a lot of missing hardware drivers for Mac OSX.

The pourpouse of the soundcard, is it a hobby or you wanna take it more seriously?

In my case, wich is not a hobby, I bought RME Hammerfall Multiface, http://www.rme-audio.de/, despite I'm a PC user, I've tryed it on Mac. For me it's the perfect choice, but, I didn't tryed them all (sondcards).Hehe.
Take a look, maybe this soundcard fits your needs.
The disadvantage, it's when making music is a hobby, this way will be a complete waste of money, cause you'll get many cheeper stuff out there. Well this is just what you asked for, only a sugestion, as for the audio editor, I've seen Peak.
Huggs!

well guys. RME looks like a nice choice. They have lots of SC. The prices where lower then i expected.

OS X and classic. I use both, depends on the use.
But for music im staying out of X.

The Sound card is for serious music production.

i will tell you my choice soon.

thanks a lot, my path is very clear now.
