MAC's Aggregate Device option for splitting audio output?

I have an Apogee Duet which unfortunately has only one stereo output pair with the same signal running through the headphone out jack. I want to use my Duet with say Traktor 3 whereby the main audio output runs from the Duet and I can have a headphone mix as well (perhaps running from the 1/8 in. jack output of the macbook).

Is this what the aggregate device is for? I tried to set it up and it looks like in Traktor I can select the Main Output to Duet and the Monitor to 'Aggregate Device' but tried and no luck getting a separate headphone mix.           ELECTRON EYES / MARK-EVAN (NOR. CAL)

Not 100% sure, but I think this is the case: From what I understand about aggregate device routing, you might be able to route a cue out to your laptop's headphone out (or another interface's output), but you won't be able to do what you're talking about with the Duet alone. You can basically just choose which tracks go to which outs on the interfaces that you have connected (not sure if this includes the on board headphone out). I'd love to have a Duet, but I ended up going with a Firebox for this reason.

Yeah, sure. If I don't have a user, then who wrote me?

aggregate devides are simply combined drivers.

for example, you can make one driver from the drivers of your duet and your macbooks native outs. if you select that driver then, you can use the in/outs of both at once.

I'm not quite sure if traktor doesnt support this without an agg. device, but logic for example lets you just select one driver, so this is the option to use more than one interface.           https://soundcloud.com/hazak

So let's say I just forget about the Duet and want to use the Core audio with Traktor. What would I need to do to configure a split output setup with one jack for a headphone mix?

Since so many ppl use mac's for DJ and live I presume this is possible.           ELECTRON EYES / MARK-EVAN (NOR. CAL)

ok, little tutorial here:

1. open audio/midi config -> in the topbar select audio, device manager -> click on the little + there, then select the devices you need (in this case integrated output & duet), set the clock to the device you desire and click on finish.

2. in the audio/midi config select the new aggregated device as standard output

3. in traktor you should now be able to set the output to duet and the headphone mix to the integrated output

but one thing that came to my mind, cant you just use the normal outputs of duet for the output and the hp out of the duet for the headphone mix?!

anyway, now should anyone know how aggregated devices are set up           https://soundcloud.com/hazak

Thank you sir!

The problem in using the Duet's headphone out is that you will hear the same signal as the 'house' mix or what the crowd hears. What is needed is to audition a 'cue' mix without broadcasting it the crowd. The only reason this poses a dilemma for me is that I'm still getting accustomed to audio and midi configurations on the Mac (plus the Duet provides only one stereo output pair with the same signal running to the headphone out).

It seems like if I ran my mix from Core Audio, I could use both the input and output jacks as separate outputs? But ohhh how I want to use the Duet's DA converters and master volume dial. Although arguably, a difference in sound quality would not be detectable to the audience.
