Hey all,
I am looking for a laptop that will be good for production i'm looking at ibook 1.3ghz 512bm ram running cubase sx2
does this look good? what are your experiences with mac? (I do not like logic because of no VST p;ugion support)
other option is to get vaio centrino 1.6 ghz
2mb cache L2, 400mhz bus
also, is there a way to do production on linux platform?! the stability would be nice
(thats why mac software is to stable, afterall) |

why ibook and not powerbook ?? and about logic u still having support of your plugs ins if u bought them for a nominal fee u can have them all , or if u dont whant to buy software u'll find lots of AU in the internet for u can use without problems ,
cubase and logic are not available for linux distros ,
your option for stability is macintosh , my best option for u ,
i have a power mac g5 dual 2ghz , going to get my laptop frmo mac to 1.67ghz 1 gb ram 100 hdd disck5200 .
and it really worhts , allready worked on both computers and they are good ffor what u need .

hey thanks for the post
why ibook because my budget it tight ;-)
my quesiton to you (Darkpsy) is if the ibook i want to get is good enough to run the cubase and everything i would have run on my P4 3.2 ghz w/ 1ghz ram...... seems like too much to ask form a laptop... maybe i'll get powerG5 like you said.....
as for the specs it seems strange to me that the bus for a G5 is 133 mhz and that of a pentium is 400.... whats going on here?
you seem to have experience with macs, what do you know about the comparison between them? |

If you're going to use Cubase, I suggest getting off with a windowsXP based laptop.
Although in a case of using Logic, then powermac is the go. But then we are waiting for the g5 powerbooks ofcourse.

Still some time till they will arrive ...
And for your question (DJ_Chorman)
Mac is a way of life, some sort of a cult if you ask me...
once you get one thats it your hooked!
the problem is as you probebly know , money.
They are very expenssive but hey, nothing good comes cheep in life...
If your going 4 the laptop get the powerbooks G4 or wait for the G5 (which will take a while)
and if desktop G5 dual 2.5 all the way

I have decided that I will go for the 1.8 dual and upgrade to at least 1gb ram, bigger HD and all
I will not be switching to Logic though....

Hey
i have an iMac, it's not the iBook but... same engine;)
I run Ableton Live 4, it's great soft, but i wanna install Cubase sx3 too...
Anyways, Mac computers have very nice power of work, not like pc's which are all the time fucked'up (viruses, slow work, etc...).
Mac computer is great machine for music making=)
Your choice- 1.3Ghz, 512MbRAM is really good configuration;) but do not forget, the soundcard should be good too- min.24/96...
Boom!
