is it possible to work in logic using the optical output to a d/a converter or using a external soundcard is recommended? |

with apogee firewire converters it works but it comes with drivers but in my case there is no driver so i m wondering if it will handle heavy projets the same.
the core audio stock driver is good enought to make heavy projects ? a friend told me it should be ok ,anyone can confirm this? |

PoM, I can confirm 100% that native core audio with onboard is enough for full projects - done a few projects like that.
I was using the coaxial digital output to a Lavry d/a.

I run logic off macbook pro digital out to coax converter to DACs Clarity Headmaster (D to A converter, monitor controller and headphone amp). Works a treat and sounds amazing - much better than my crappy firewire soundcard's outputs. |

That DACs Clarity Headmaster look like a intresting box for monitoring man .
For now i went for a cheap small soundcard (echo audiofire 2 )with digital outputs to connect to my converter ,i went that way for portability. Now saving for something that will give me many outputs but haven t find the box yet not sure i ll find one for a laptop. |
