Ahmm.. I'm not too sure abt 4 on Mac. I'm running on Pc with C4.... it does not have vb-1 and quadrafuzz etc.. But yea just drop the dll files... and its fine. But some vsts are not compatible with C4 as its quite new.
Initially it had some problems with crashing, clicks etc... but the update has been released and u cld download it now.... so tht helps the problem.
So as far as i see, all the above shld be pretty much the same on MAc...
Cheers

I'm not so sure it should be the same on the mac. You have to take into consideration the different platforms. I haven't used Cubase 4 on the mac and can't say how it works and what works. It's better to find those users who tried it out on the mac. Here's a thread which might address your question while I wish for the users to post this information in your thread instead:

If you look on the Cubase 4 DVD all of the old Cubase 3 plugins are there, you just have to pull them off the DVD into the vst folder.

On Mac Intel i it works just fine, no crashes, but u don't have all the older plugins like quadrafuzz (no new version of it btw). U can add the old plugins to Cubase 4 and they open themselves through the "vst bridge", but there's some bugs. For example if you close the quadrafuzz window it crashes, dunno why.

I don't know what you mean with "not tweakable" but I definitly can't confirm this here.
I run cubase on a mac book pro and also on win XP on the same macbook pro.
With OSx I can have a latency of 64- 128 samples with no crackles whereas on windows the lowest I can do is 256. (comparing same 40% CPU load.)

OsX kicks ass.... I'm on leopard and I have to say this os is been a pleasure to work and navigate since i have it.
everything is more stable and faster... logic ableton , unfortunatly i do not have cubase for apple but i"m sure it would be the same. On the other hand if you do not own all the plugin windows might be a better choice for obvious reasons. |

hi everyone,
first of all thanks a lot for the info!
but im still a bit in doubt in few things...
i wish to know Jaadoo,
what u mean whit more latency and not tweakable?
i know that if u have a lot of latency, u have some delay in what u do and what u hear.
for example when u press a note on the keyboard, u will hear the sound liiiitle bit after.
same when u press the space bar to start the sequencer, it will start liiiitle bit later.
but what else does a big latency, like the one in cubase 4 on mac?
probably i will buy a mac (i heard in dec will be released the new model), will install cubase 4 and try to drag the old plug in files in the vst folder, just like whit pc. and i will never ever close quadrafuzz
i believe that osx is stable and fast... sometime i use my brother mac to go online, now that my 3 pc have several problems (need to be a computer engineering to have a stable system on pc!) and i rarely had some crash, and when i get, just force quit the program and in 1 second, it start again. veeeeeery rarely i get totally blocked, thing that i get at least once every 2-3 days whit a pc!
i had a mac too (g5), but i sold it after 2 months... just 'cos many plugins was not working (waves... first of all)... i never understood why!
...
but still... after many years on pc, now i start to think that maybe is better to spend more, have less plugins but have the same, stable and safe equipment for many years.
i format my pc at least once every year... im tired of this loosing of time! and now whit vista, looks like is even more difficolt to have a stable d.a.w.!

Yo do not need to buy a mac to run cubase on OSX, meanwhile there are cheaper way to build a computer which can run OSX.
I suggest saving money and better put that money in some other stuff.
Anyone is running Cubase 4 (32 Bit edition) on a 64 Bit Vista System? I heard from a fried who is working alot with graphics, that Vista 64 with a Quadcore and 8 GB Ram is pretty fluid
If you would built a computer that can run BOTH systems you could try out both.
What about the new EQ is Cubase 4 is it comparable to teh Logic EQ now which includes a FFT ? and has a nice adjustable slope. http://facebook.com/ansolas

Cubase 4 on Mac is incredible. By all indications runs far better than the PC version. No problems yet. Even got the VB1, maybe I'll try it out someday haha. |
