houle,heartthrob,magda,gaiser,
loco dice,troy pierce..ohh yeah hawtin

the big name of the minimal genre. some people see it as an outstanding label, even see hawtin as god.

some other think its just image work and promotion strategies.. only ok music, not perfect.

i wonder what you think.

to my mind for sure they have some ourstanding releases, for instance some gaiser stuff. eye contact was shit though.
but to my mind its not that outstanding music all the time.
lotsa image work they do.thats why they became so big.

at the end its all about taste for sure. but what i am interested is to hear what you think about why they become so big?? because of the music or cause of the imageselling?

A_nus or M_Nus?

Each and everytime I listened to a Hawtin set, I was surprised.

Not all the sets were amazing...but when it's on fire, Oh Dear!!!

He's, without a doubt, a true pioneer of the genre.

I know he wasn't very liked back when he started...I mean, all of the sudden a white canadian bloke making parties in Detroit...Saunderson Craig and Atkins didn't dig that for sure.

But...time told a different story in the end.

The label?

It's a good label mate...the Dubfire RMX of Plastikman is a monster, Are U OK? is huge, I play Black Leather Wonder from Magda...which is pretty large.

Dunno what's your point mate...but one's thing is for certain, regardless of promotion, which happens to be way less spammy then, for example, Cocoon, M-nus is a huge milestone in electronic music and absolutely vital as a part of the culture...ever heard of Plastikman???

well almost everything as been said by justin...richie hawtin aka plastikman belongs to the first generation of techno producers, and so he deserves full respect, not only for that, but also because he founded one of the most important labels wich was mute records, follwed by minus wich in my opinion, like justin said, is one of the most importants label side to side with cocoon ( wich by coincidence belongs to other frontline tecno producer - sven vath, who did found another very important techno label this named Harthouse (hardfloor;der dritte raum).
Minus, has a living legend as owner, and in my opinion, the most influents producers of the techno scene...(my personal taste goes to loco dice )

ok i couldnt be clear i guess.

i just wondered whats the effect of huge marketing on a music label.

for sure M_Nus is a huge milestone,
richie hawtin's mixing skills i dont discuss that, neither PLASTIKMAN as his producer side.
i also love gaiser stuff.so creative music.

for me its just alot of hype but every label lives on their hype for awhile and then they eiter update their sound or close

for its just a label who lives on that it was started by a really good dj just the same with cocoon

im not saying its bad but for me its not that intresting label

for me the good minimal label are like Soma & Vakant

lot of crap music, some good tracks, lot of boring sets, some great sets = m_nus

BUT ALSO

lot of crap music, some good tracks, lot of boring sets, some great sets = all other labels on the scene

you must respect m_nus for there work , but also not bring them to god`s level cos they are NOT that good...sometimes too much people are just standing on there dj sets and not dancing...but thats general problem of 90% todays dj....too much boring music....

Depends on the DJ, Magda sucks as a DJane poor girl...Gaiser and Barem they always deliver, but more on the live field.
Hawtin...depends on the club and his mood.
I recommend you to go to a Fabric night in London with Hawtin in charge.

In my opinion..it is probably the most remarkable techno label for the last 10 years, and btw this video that Justin posted above, should be under the definition of what is ''techno'' today.
I was there and i was almost dieing.
INSANE

p.s. founder of minus and before of PLUS8 with other 2 famous guys, novamute was another story, already running in US.          ____________________________

I agree with that 100%. We have hosted Magda 2 times, but she has dissapointed us ( as an organisers ) and public as a listeners. I took a sleep in the backstage while her 2 hour gig. Arranged an alarm 10 minutes before she has finished so she couldnt catch me sleeping           Psynthex [ Vertikal Records ]

Don't get me wrong...I'd do Magda any day, that's what counts really.

like most big labels, they prob'ly wouldn't release so much crap if they didn't have so much money as the result of the fashion-blinded sheep throwing it at them

don't get me wrong. Full respect. They've been doing it for a fucking long time. It's not their fault that minimal's "so hawt right now" ;-)           new Hadal Drop album on the way

if you don't have the last one get in touch
