My 2 cents...
Having your woofers blow on your BX-5's is a blessing in disguise. Take this as an excuse to buy different monitors. Especially if yr producing trance music on the 5's. let's just face it, these monitors SUCK which is why theyre dirt cheap. in fact, the reason why all m-aud gear is so cheap is cus it is all crap quality shizzle shaz, not really a company worth supporting. my friends audio interface has been shitting on him since day 1.

personally i would say it is a better deal to buy used, good monitors, such as genelec, mackie, event, krk, etc., then to waste your hard earned dollars and shekels on m-audio gear. the 5's deliver cheapened, highly embellished sound with almost no low-end (by the way i do own a pair of these, hence my lengthy cockamamy opinions, i use them these days as stage monitors for low-end gigs, et al).

ohkay rant mode off, but this is a ranting thread so i figured hey why not...

I think you're a bit harsh on M-Audio.

True, they are cheap. So what?

They are cheap because it's well-thought equipment, designed by top engineers in the US(M-Audio is a part of AVID, one of the most professional computer company if there is!!!) and produced+assembled in China, hence they give you more gear for less money.

It's not because you pay a lot that you have something better!! There's no such equation.

However, I agree that the BX-5's are not really trance-oriented, especially because you can't listen to your low-ends. But the BX8a's do the job, IMO. You have to get used to the low sound they provide by listening to lots of your fave artists on them so you know what sounds you have to produce. Then, they are just as good as any other monitors... Meaning you can really listen to the effect of the slightest tweak you make.

With the sound cards, I think it is best to not hotplug them into your computer. The manual strongly warns against doing that. Even when you first open the box, they tell you not to hotplug the soundcard into the computer.

the cards are far from perfect but offer decent value for price.

I have a scope proffesional and scope home on the desktop, and audiophile firewire on the laptop, and while of course the audiophile isnt a scope, im happy with it and feel i got what i payed for.

For some audio production, lives, streams, chilling ro music, all that the maudio does fine and is very stable here. I guess the asio isnt as strong as creamware, but the laptop isnt as strong as the desktop so i'm not sure on that.

Dude hotplugging has nothing to do with the unreliability of the soundcards! I've got an RME Fireface 400 & even that came with the same warning..

What makes the M-Audio soundcards unreliable is the shitty drivers..I thank god my Firewire audiophile days are behind me!           http://www.soundcloud.com/getafixmusic

Bhooteshwara Records
Cubasing is like Freebasing, just with audio.
Both cost more than you can afford, and leaves you sitting in a dark room with no life, craving for more.
