Sorry but I have to bug you with another xx VS xx post. I did search through the forum and I found some really helpful posts. It helped me minimize the alternatives to those three.
So which one would you choose, and why?
- M-Audio Radium 61
- Evolution mk-461c
- Edirol PCR-m50 |

I bought a Radium 49 and it was a mistake. The controllers are great but the keyboard is bad, I don't like to play it. So I will give it back or sell it.

i also bought a Radium49 but traded it in for a Edirol PCR 50. it was broken out of the box, plus it was a pain to edit the controllers.
i dont know anything about the Evolution, but the PCR50 works great, altho some people say it dies after a year. ive had it for over 6 months with no problem |

Evolution controllers are great, and easy to assign controls, i own a mk 249c for over 2 years and no single problem yet, not even the usb cable. |

I only got experience with the M-Audio Radium 61 myself, since it's the one I use myself, and I'm happy with it. A couple of friends of mine has got Evolution keyboards, and they're happy with those so ...
I guess I didn't help much, now did I?

sundrop, mindfilter and phobium, although you didn't provide hard technical facts, you've all been a big help. At this moment the evolution is in top of my next-to-buy list.
Please continue commenting about the 3 midi controller keyboards. Thanks! |

Go for evolution. Nice knobs and the keyboard ain't bad. Edirols knobs are fucked up, cause theres this gap in twelve o clock.
(I used to have an evolution mk-449c and i've tried both, edirol and radium.) |

I had previously Oxygene 8, but it was way too small (2+ octaves), light-weight and had that plasticy feeling in it.
Then I bought evolution mk-461c and I'm very pleased with it. It's heavy enough, there is wealthy amount knobs and sliders, and assigning knobs is way easier than with Oxygene. For me, the weight and easiness of the knob assignment are important. There is also a librarian tool with which you can easily store knob configurations on your hd. BTW, if you use B4, the evolution has a special feature which reverses the sliders so that you can easily adjust the organ controllers in B4 (there is 9 sliders as in B4).
I haven't tested radium nor the edirol, but I feel that I made the right choice with evolution.
However, I feel that the connection between VST parameters and the midi controller is still too hard to establish. Even if you have layouts for different vst's on your controller, it's hard to remember which was for which vst because there is no textdisplay on the controller (I believe neither the radium nor the edirol have one. MicroKontroller from korg has it - and it's pricy). And if you have more than 10 different vst's/layouts, you have to use the librarian... and when speaking of controlling the mixer/effects in your sequencer, well... it's a mess (at least on cubase)
So, with evolution you can't go any more wrong than with the other controllers. But be prepared that the knob assignment won't be that easily as you might think. I often find myself twidling the parameters with mouse :/ Maybe I'm just lazy
I'm actually designing a program to be put between your controller and sequencer so that changing and configuring knob layouts for ALL your controllers would be easy. Then getting behringer bcr2000 would be actually good idea. But more on that later... |

Honguito,
at the moment I am waiting for a response of Thomann (where I bought it) perhaps there is something wrong with the exemplar I bought. Otherwise I will take my old Yamaha B200 and my doepfer pocket dial again. I also have a Korg Stagepiano, it's great for playing more melodic things different to fast trance and percussion things.

Last night I ordered an evolution mk461c. I'm looking forward to start playing with it.
Thank you all for the replies, you've all been a big help for making my final decision.
