i'm looking to buy a soundcard to my laptop. which is the better solution? in terms of sound quality and cpu usage? i know firewire has less latency than usb but is the card better too?           Pyrex :: Traveling without moving

If you prefer firewire, why not get the Firewire Solo ?
It is the same price as the Fast Track Pro.

The Firewire Audiophile with those RCA i/o just doesn't feel good to tell you the truth... Only if you're on the road all the time and connecting RCA with dj mixers all the time.           Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

stay away from fast track pro .. it has this very irritating bug where external electric currents cause it to freeze .. i had thought initially it was to do with the electricity in my apartment .. but then i shifted .. twice .. and its still there .. maybe i have buggy 1 but i heard similar complaints from other m audio users here too ..

Never had any problems with my FW m-audio 410, Orange do you refer to the FW audiophile only?

Anyway id go for AF FW instead of the fasttrack

Edit: I once had the Terratec DMX 6Fire, worst soundcard i ever tried in my life. I stay away from terratec after i used that product

+1

Terratec fan too here... Stable and good souding for its price range. Excellent for decent lives with low budget.

(ps: have had the m-audio AP and edirol fa66 too and they bugged like hell)

i had the dmx 6fire and i also had alot of problems... but none of this occured with the phase x24 i have it worked out of the box and the past 2 years is working like a dog and in the studio and on stage.

i had terrible experiences with m-audios and specialy with usb and firewire ones. i dont recomend them.           http://www.landmark-recordings.com/

I have the m-audio firewire audiophile. Dude, i suggest you f... AVOID it!!! it's been giving me troubles ever since i got it hooked up to my laptop. the 4' firewire cable tends to have troubles with connection. all the time, also the official forum states they still haven't found a fix for bug related to core duo processors causing weird behaviour. I have been browsing forums ever since i bought it about 3 years ago, even tried beta driver from m-audio. nothing helped. The 6' PC firewire connector works fine. But with laptop i need to power cycle the device all the time to make it work again if i move laptop just a tiny bit. (tried 2 cables same thing) I have played on parties with it though, very good unless you touch the wire!           Monitoring devices, know where you go

@Bash... hmm strange bug there. hehe never heard of that. Maybe it has something to do with the earthing?

I just got this M-Audio Mobile PRE, its cool because its compatible with pro tools.

Firewire is typically faster than USB. I don't think there is any noticeable quality difference, maybe 5%.          https://www.djjeto.com
