hi there
i have m_audio bx8 and i´m not so happy with it. these are good monitors but with bx8 you really need to have a very good room accoustics so that they work well. about bx5 they are slightly smaller so i guess that this problem i´m talkin about you will be felt less, but if i were to choose now, i would go for some monitors with woofer hole to the front like Alesis mk1.
but its only my opinion, hope it helped !!

I also have the Bx8's and I think for the price they are good, but they seem to lack low end bass, so my mixes end up too bassy when i play them on a bigger sound system. this is the only thing i dont like about them, but you have to go withthe best your budget will allow. A good way to figure it out is to goto a studio equipment store and tell them how much you can spend, and see which monitors you can afford. Since you brought a CD with you of some killer psy trance that you like and is well produced, play a good track over the speakers and compare the ones you can afford, see which ones you like the most and take those home with you. They generally sound different, and its hard to describe sometimes exactly. I listened to the Genelecs i could not afford and was amazed at the dynamics within the midrage.

bx 5 has nothing common with the bx 8 only in the brand

bx 5 very good choice for budget studio
very good clarity no bass problems maybe a bit harsh on the long run but better then most of the cheap range monitors better then m-audios are the yamaha msp-4 msp-5 same price but bx-5 are much more suitable for dance music production

bx-8 are awefull i got them and now i m sorry for not purchasing the bx5 in the first place

if you're looking for 5"ers check the Yamaha ones.

i think they are the best solution for 5" monitors.
