Infinite celebration!

I have a lot to say about this gathering but time is a rubber band and must not snap me on the nose so this is just about lost & found items-

Psyman, I did see the jacket but I think it is half way to Portugal by now as a cold friend borrowed it to stay warm on Sunday night. Sorry for your loss. It is in a good place.

Catalyx, I have you lens. Call me sometime. Let's talk Alchemy Festival and digital accessories.

Love you, freaky people!

it is my intention to create dance music that is intensely psychedelic, even if that means using sounds and structures that people aren't used to. i am, however, continually surprised by the difficulty people have dancing to my music.

I wasn't there, but point me to some of the music you played and I'll tell you why.

Opinion: It is much easier to dance to music that sounds familiar than that which is completely foreign.

I listen to Dave's music almost every day--being one of the lucky few having access to it. So I danced my ass off during his set. There is irony here, because I never dance (pretty much), and the rest of y'all do. At trance parties I stand in the sweet spot and just soak in the soundz, all night long. This is partly because I am obsessed with sound for it's own sake, especially whirling, swirling synth textures and deep, rumbling, roiling, throbbing basses. But the other part of that is I've got my receivers set for music which transcends the cerebral sonic tickling in my ears, and forces my body to gyrate and flail around like retarded sealion (to use Dave's vernacular). All too often this search turns up dry. It's a lot like SETI. I'm in space and it's all spacey, but the aliens just aren't talking to me. I could rephrase all that as a harsh judgment of the homogeneity that plagues trance music, but I'll reserve that criticism and keep the discussion personal.

It SEEMS to me that music that is 'easy to dance to' is music that sounds like all the other stuff. But I would contend that if you were familiar with some well-produced obscuro you'd dance to it all the same, and have an even more intense experience. Like when you go to see your favorite band, you're singing along and anticipating every beat. But with dance music, DJs are turning over tracks every month or so. In one ear out the other. If it didn't all sound the same the dance culture would be totally different. I probably have a different attitude than most, because I am actively seeking out something new each time I go out. Yarden's set really touched me, too, because of its unique sound. The production level is on it's way, but the musical IDEAS are brilliant (and I was lonely on the dancefloor during a lot of his set, too). Dave's whole thing is about new musical ideas rather than regurgitating familiar ones. That kind of approach, combined with good production skillz, instantly sets off my danceability radar. That's just me though, I totally get that.

Allz I'm sayin' is, I guess, Dave should put all his tracks on a server for people to DL. Or at least put it up on _gulp_ myspace. It's total headphones music, anyway.

First, This.

Ok, so here is my take. I felt the music started off great, but was a bit slow to build up. By the time the Monks started, I was more than ready for some crazy beats. I know that my choices for music are very much for hard dark craziness, and not everyone wants that all night long. I give mad props to Dylan for his sun rise set, after a night of working the fire, tired and burnt all over, he had me dancing and grooving away.

Working the fire, IS my dance. I do dance and stomp about as well, but tending fire is my thing. Justin and I spent a good amount of time talking with Megan and Karo about what their intentions for the party were, and how they wanted the fire to fit into that vision. I feel we met that intention. It was great to see other people bringing wood, and putting it on the fire. That ended tho, when it got kinda big. (chickens! hehe)

It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces, dancing around the fire. That is a big part of why I put so much effort into it. I had an amazing time, with wonderful people.

I was left with a question for me tho... Why is MY having fun, So much work! haha

Much love to all the DJs that put in countless hours of work selecting and making music for us to dance to!
