Another point to consider while the world seems to lap up all this linear phase malarky is that linear phase EQ by and large is considerably more power hungry then standard EQ, and IMO rarely sounds 'better'. Different certainly, cleaner possibly, but all those ridiculously expensive analogue desks of yore were non linear, and their highly sought after sound certainly isn't clean!
Subjectively, as long as it sounds good, I'd rather pick out the non linear for part mixing purposes, as a) I can run more instances without bouncing, which is obviously useful when mixing, and b) the *distortion* (otherwise known as character) can be very pleasant indeed.
