I would suggest anything that implements linear phase since equing those low parts on a simple fft might get nasty.

I wouldn't recommend Waves LinEq, because it takes away some character of the sound and adds a kind of muddy haze to it. I'd use the Waves SSL or Voxengo's Curve EQ. If you use a UAD-1 or Powercore card i'd try the Cambridge or Sony-Oxford EQs.

I don't know why you guys even bother with making music still.
Seems like you already made enough $$$ if you can afford the SSL plugins from Waves |

Aren't you only supposed to use Linear Phase EQs for cutting really low frequencies?
I have heard that using regular EQs isn't the end of the world, but they introduce distortion when cutting lower frequencies.

That's what i've been told too, but in my ears the regular UAD-1 Cambridge EQ sounds way better than the Waves Linear EQ. Apparently there are Linear EQs and Linear EQs: some of which are very good, and some, like the Waves one are not so good.
@Djones: try the demo, it's on their website

Wow.. this was a newsflash for me... I've just been using regular eq's for this job and I've never been really happy with the precision in the very low end.
So linear phase is the way to go? But the Waves ones are no good huh?
Colin, would you care to elaborate on why you choose Q for high-passing.. isn't that a regular paragraphic eq? Why not REQ then or any eq really? |

We love psytrance!!! lol
I think Waves SSL HPF adds some reso to the audio. Not so much clean, but has a nice character. But for just cleaning the low end I don´t like so much.
I´ve been using some instances of Q filter or Voxengo Gliss Eq for simple Low Cut.
And I´d like to know more about "Regular Eq" and "Linear Phase Eq" purpouses... Meta asked something about adding distortion to the low end. True?

i agree, if you use a simple fft be very carfeul, and listen careful to what changes are applied to the higher bands, and check the gain caused by it on your mixer.

I sometimes use C4, adjust the lowest band, compress to hell, and gain away...it seems to work for me..though I cant play them on a big system. Anyone else use this method? Opinions?

For a straight, no-fucking-around, brickwall HPF I use the Waves Q series (up to Q6), with as many bands as necessary, all set to high-pass at the same frequency.
