Hi all,
When I play for example the init patch of my VirusTI, the sound isn't loud at all (around -8db) is it normal that the Virus plays so low even if I push the volume button of the patch all the way up?

Yes, that's normal.
The reasons are these:
1.) The Init patch is by far not the beefiest of sounds the TI is capable of. It's just one oscillator and one voice with no effects.
2.) Access doesn't want you to go deaf.
3.) You will also notice that when 4 or more notes (or parts) are being played at once, the volume of all notes/parts automatically drops. This is to keep from overloading your speakers and eardrums (see Reason 2).
You can definitely make throbbing bass, immersible pads and screaming leads with it, but you have to play with the parameters. |

Hi Axis Mundi, thanks for your reply.
(and thanks to Access for taking care of my ears
OK, if it's normal, cool (I was afraidthat it was an issue on my TI).
Sure the TI is a good synth but I think it's strange that the volume is so low with one osc and no filtering...
I prefer to lower the volume of the patch than adding a plugin or something to raise it up. |

You can reach 0 db and higher without using any plugins. You just have to add/change oscillators, use unison, EQ, filter saturation, etc... there are quite a lot of ways to boost the volume of a patch, actually.

One of the reasons I was so put off from using the Virus B when I had it for main leads when I just wanted a big single oscillator saw, square/PWM. It's raw oscillator sound was its biggest let down.

I agree with you Larrikin, the volume is louder with the audio outs.
That means that it's just a software (vst) limitation.
I often add a compressor or a limiter to boost the sound when using a single osc. |
