I recently obtained a cd from a friend which is a copy of another CDR and that one is another copy of many others. The cd is a radio broadcast of a concert that was taped in 1986, then from tape to computer, to computer to CD-R. It is very low quality and I was wondering if there is away to make it high quality, any programs that do such things, and does the job good. anyone here have any info to lend to me?

thanks,
Finger Jagger

if the recording sounds bad because of noise,
u need to feed a denoiser plugin with it, this will improve the sound.
denoiser plugins .... look for them in www.

I have a good tip for you:
Try to open this piece in sound forge and
apply on this wave the noise reduction plug-in and save it as 24/96 wave sample...

24 Bit and 96Khz or *.Mp3 (320 Kbps)

saving it as 24/96 won't help a tiny bit. Recording at 24/96 will help - but this ain't the issue here.           Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

Come on guys if the font is a tape saving it as 24/96 will not help for sure!!!
what can help you is CoolEditproaudio 2000 to erase clips and hiss, after doing it eq properly and you might get a nice thing, try it.

Foka's right.. it needs quite a work to do good job with it and of course it won't be anything like cd quality... just a lot better if you know what to do...

reduce the hiss... maybe any clicks there... and raise a little the mid and maybe the bass, too.. but equalizing is in your ears... maybe it needs only little work...           in search for an answer...

the only loss in quality would have occured in the original taping process (which added hiss, noise & slight tape compression probably) and then from tape to computer (maybe some computer noise, but probably pretty good 16 bit 44k signal). the copying from CD to CD could only cause clicks, which can be drawn out in soundforge etc.

As for the tape noise try isolating the noisiest bands (probably around upper mids) on a multiband compressor/expander & EXPAND these frequencies (try not to limit them too much because this will raise the noisefloor) & increase the gain accordingly. if you can find a particularly noisy & narrow band then just use a notch EQ to pull it down a bit beforehand.

Why the precess of the recording to the computer should add more noise?

If the cables are good and the audio card is good, there shouldn't be any additional noises!

u cant do it better quality but u can manipilate some sound parameters so it will sound "better".

its like the DFX plug-in.

sound enchancement is very depntetive on the source and the listener..

if it was recorded from radio it had already been not so qulity coz radio broadcast is not qulified+the years past and the tape issue and the sound card input issue..etc..etc...

try to eq some shit
maybe it will help.

GOOD LUCK!           ***dread controls***
