Ok, well. It seems that most of the answers are pointing to no sub. I now can agree. I'm not feeling my bm5a's anymore and I'm willing to spend up to $2800 for a pair. They must go down to atleast 40hz. I love the mids and highs in the Adam A7's, but the bass isn't as good as the bm5a's. I'm not really sure which monitors will be the right choice if I'm not sure what brands to look for. Suggestions? |

They are defiantly designed for near-field use. |

lets remember they dont 'cut' at xxhz but only getting slope from there (sometimes even control able) so with monitors that have the cutoff point @40hz u can sure hear what happen on 35hz pritty easy.. atleast for the 'boom' and 'deep' of the sound effect it creates..

So you think its best to avoid the sub?
|
|
yeah. and its always realy hard to decide how much power to give to the sub anyway..
might be better with the lowe freqs dynamics i supose on other hand.. but still just to determent where to have the crossover point can take couple of months.
and it fits to big rooms with great acoustics.. those bass traps arent easy at all once you have sub you need those huge cubes.. not to mention your neighbours gonna complain hole lot more.
BUT
if you going on the genelec 5" those work very well with the sub from my experience www.sattelbattle.com

They go for $2200 to $2500 used. Check the classifieds section on gearslutz, they pop up all the time.

True, but I think I want to buy new due to warranty factors. |

yes but in a studio not in a bedroom it s overkill for small rooms imo but sure they can work their too but not as well as in a big treated room
EtherealMotive you have to listen to the monitors it s personal,no one can tell you what is good for you ,in that price range all are usable to get good mix i guess.. |

Depends on the size of the room. You don't have to play them at full blast
...and they are only 6.5" drivers.
But we could say all studio monitors are no good for bedrooms then hey? |

In my opinion a sub is best suited for post production.
But nothing say that you cant work with it from beginning, but i think you get better control over mid range freqs if you get some decent monitors.
But like Elad say, the genelec is awesome and their subsystems are very nice but they cost a lot..
I have a Blue sky mediadesk and im going to get my self a pair of Genelecs... maybe 8030A or 8040A, but thats in the future, they cost a lot...
