What’s a good track? something u listen to and love from the first time, or listen to it many times till it starts “growing on you”, or get used to it. how many times did u listen to a track or an album and found if boring, but after u play it 2 or 3 times , it becomes all of a sudden a brilliant one!
I always like to rate my music, but when I re listen to some tracks I usually find them under rated, or over rated…

I love the process of digging. At the first time many albums can be nothing. But after 5-6 times they brilliant!

very well said indeed!
but imo, when heard again n again you tend to grow a liking for most tunes, take pop for instance, britney(omg she's HOT) videos are aired so that some kids can watch it/her over n over again n then start humming the tune, and there s another sale! but once the next album is out...do these kids really hum the tunes of the oldr tracks..is the question!
i guess its almost the same with any genre of music you pick!
i like listenin to a cd atleast thrice 'attentively' before making a judgement! but with the amount of music happenin from time to time it gets difficult to find the time to listen to evrerytin all at once...so I kinda like to get back to older stuff and discover a great track that i might've missed!this is a great excersice!
and, there are also a few tracks that I simply cant help fallin in love with the moment they touch the cranial nerves.(try cbl - MOS 6581) and these tracks also tend to grow on me with hearing expieriences!
Nothing is said that has not been said before. |

For the first 7 years when I Djed tracks would sometimes grow on me over time, it would take time before I would perhaps open up to a new sound or understand it.
Now its different - I just need to listen to a track one time, and I will know whether it is something I will like or not - So, its 1 listen and I will know. (for most tracks, 5 seconds will already disqualify it)
There are subtle changes over time though - Like, I rate the tracks and the rating might go up or down one notch (10% better or worse).
This is not really because my taste in music changes, but because the mood I am in, when I listen to music changes - So, if Im in a bad mood I will rate everything lower, and when Im in a good mood I will rate it higher.
Rating tracks is very simple - The further away from reality the track draws me the better it is - The more it makes my body move, my mind wander etc the better.
I take listening to tracks for the first time extremely serious, its like work - not pleasure. (though the work in itself is pleasure, it compares to peeling of the skin of an orange before you eat it - you look forward to eating it, but not with the skin on it)
Recreational listening is for when I have a lot of tracks I like - I then listen to them again and do the same thing over and over again - This way I keep rating the tracks deciding which are the best - Since they set a new standard for each other for each cycle...
Im not going to suggest NO track EVER falls out, or I miss a good track every now and then - but its very rare, at least when I compare how I relate to new material now to how I used to 7-10 years back.
Best Wishes
Krell

I agree that some tracks get in your heard after u listen to them many times.. but just out of habit, like
Forrest dreams said.. but again it all depends on the mood and how careful you listen to a track.

It happens very often with me, with quality prog. albums (i.e. not tracks but rather sets)... and usually, so far am concerned, quality albums need 2 - 3 listenings to start to be enjoyed... the more subtility in it, the more listenings it needs...
