hello folks,
i've been collecting some progressive house for some time, and there is a type of really layed back, low bpm loungy style of house music that is very pleasant and relaxing, although it is 4x4 beat music.
Examples?
Fred Everything, I-Shead, Gazor, miguel migs, Albert vera and some Aquaculture trax (understatement for instance).
My question is whether this material can be played as chillout set - either as whole theme of a set or as a part of one, starting from really low grooves and opening up to these flowing beats.
My belief is that this material can serve as a very relaxing theme in chillout gigs - its not ambient, but its very pleasent to the ear.
I'd apreciate your feedback on this,
A

lounge is pleasant...
but I would need lower bpms - max 110 to really relax

Like all of these sort of questions - it all depends..
I always think DJ sets shouldnt be planned too much and if its early on and everyone is grooving & getting into the tunes - then take it up a bit - but if its getting late and people want to crash out - take it down! |

I'm not so into Lounge House... I prefer Chill House !
Hehe, of course, as for every genre of music there are great things in low bpm House music. I like when these tracks are happy without becoming cheezy...
a bit obscure definition.. but u know.. easy life stuff, making people dancing smoothly with a big smile, it's really effective when U put one here and there in your chilled set.

true, I agree. 120 BPM is definately the maximum.
I find this type of house-lounge (my term, feel free to correct me) with the female vocals and many time soft sax sound very nice if coffeeshops or style-bars, where people can groove along the delicate and sexy beat.
thanx

True... It always depents on the mood, and flow of your set... My opinion is that playing chill music means playing tunes that can be listen in the background with out disterbing the listener... This means that all genres are welcomed!!!
I like deep-lounge music, whether it can be categorized as house or electro or minimal or whatever... Something like 120bpm with atmospheric sounds and long pads will definetly get my attention in a chill set... Not too noizy and not too fast...
Imagination plays a big role in such a kind of sets... If your imagination flows it means that youre dj-set will flow, adding various genres as a suppliment...
Take care all

I also like deep-lounge house, sometimes even something around 125 bpm can still be fun and relaxing.

as i like lounge style very much and for sure it is nice if there is vocals in it-i prefer also chill psy ambient style as we have many lounge here.
we allways can mix this genre as there is no rules for it---only rules of fun
