I searched the forum but didn't find it. I assumed everybody must know that movie..

I think it's really nice illustrated.
I like it punchy.
In psytrance "punch" is confused with "limiting till ears bleed"

Totally agree...now if we just could get PA's that can handle the kind of peak output that would be needed to not make a track with that kind of spikes in the drums without the rest of the tracks sounding really low.
Reality is that if you have a psytrance master looking like in that example will not be that you will experience a lot of punch, but instead the DJ will turn up the track and make the limiter in the PA kick in to get a decent overall loudness.
Sure a lot of releases is squashing the sound a bit much, but it's certainly not as simple as one might think from that video if your not exclusively targeting nice hi-fi systems with a lot of peak power to spare.

but those spikes make the sound lifely by still haing only very little energy, so, in case the pa has just a little headroom left, it will do.
The example is a little extreme and can certainly no be applied directly.
I just think it has to be a good "inbetween" but if you aim for this "inbetween" today, people think it's not loud enough.
I like it loud, I compress my stuff etc. but at some point I loose musical possibilities, and at that point one should stopp getting louder.
We are certainly in a level, where Music gets hurt, and we have to go down at least a little.

Yeaaaahh, totally agree... lets make real music with dynamics which is not lifeless ...
to add another thing ... most people argue that the loudness war comes from making stuff sound great on pa. But hey (also said in the video, and he is sooo right), ever tried to play a track on a pa with less compression/limiting done in prior? Its astonishing to actually hear a "room" that gets created from this, even if it doesnt sound soooo full and loud on low lvl volumes.

very easy solution:
turn up your studio volume.
over loudness is defintly worse the abit lack.
peaple can use their home VOLUME knob as well.and whats wrong with add more gain ? (as long u dont clip)
but its rediculous if i go to play in party , and stupid soundman will squash my sound (instead have bigger system).
advice for peaple in PA field:
play cd , with 0 DB on master channel of the mixer , make sure the compressor NOT working untill dj mix 2 tracks together . the music is mastered allready!
and if dj stupid enough to play cliped compressed music , his problem!
very funny to see peaple listen to low volume distortion instead high volume clean sound. most of the time when i play i will take master volume DOWN to have more gain , just funny/stupid. www.sattelbattle.com

WITH THAT , trust me , without abit maximize the track some peaple will loose intrest after 1 minute , saying the "production" is not quality , but thats the problem of who accept noobs opinion.

I think it is totally ridiculous to have parties with 50k watt pa's and still compress/limit the hell out of everything. it totally destroys the dynamic range of the music, and just squishes it into oblivion. I don't know about everyone else but with 50k watt I don't need that!
Not at all!!!
And for smaller systems, hell just turn up the volume knob, it may not be ear shattering and superloud, it will however sound a heck of a lot nicer.

youre absolutely right... room & space for the mix to breath..
worst thing in music nowdays is that all sounds in your face, sucks
moreover a lot of artists have so little reverb nowdays in their mixes , where are THE space , the f&^&ng awesome reverbs from outer space and how can i feel them if their squashed to death

simon is the master i made a comparison to the festival between commercial full on artists and hallucinogen and the sound was so much sweeter and the mixes had space (maybe due to the fact that he was playing older tracks--or maybe cause he handle the sounds like babies )
about metallicas worst album of all times, the guy who made the mastering, made it shit and the hole album pretty sucks, the same guy (a famous mastering engineer) apologized in public for the hole thing, hehe
even a teacher of mine at sae was making fun and said the the drums could come from battery as well and not played from real drums at all(can be totally truth)..
ok , i think we found a holy grail
now that the music industry make everything so loud in pop/rock music as well , we will make music with space and lower levels,, at the end psychedelic will have more headroom than all those sucking pop/mtv r'n'b and linnet-trendy-rock "music"
