guys,
its weird when i export a track out of ableton live, even though its nearly clipping on the master channel its much much lower than other proffessional tracks
how do i make it louder when i export it?
i dont want to click on the normalize button cuz that just sounds like shit
i want it to sound exactly the same but actually be loud like other tracks...how do i do that?           saii.rave.ca

Next stage would be mastering or premastering.
And for sure enough hardcore years of this as I suppose.
Export your material from ableton ,when master is on lets say -6 db (I try making a bit different) and put it on wavelab and throw at least a compressor if not inflator compressor eq and limiter or else worth trying.
U could throw sth for dithering at the bottom and befor all maybe remove dc.Well me a bloody beginer for fun.
Nice is to analyse the material and get busy with db and rms. Analyse in wavelab is doubleclick the file and press Y.

I would say it is not the common way but maybe it works better for you.
I never did this way so far.           https://soundcloud.com/shivagarden

cuse ur comparing difrent types of db

"The home recording level (consumer audio) of -10 dBV means 0.3162 volts, that is -7.78 dBu.
The studio recording level (pro audio) of +4 dBu means 1.228 volts."
thats taken from that link.
anyway u shouldnt compare unmastered stuff with mastered stuff and expect to be the same.

ok i understand
so its normal to export wav at that volume from the DAW?
if it is, then whats my step of mastering where i just want it to sound louder nothing else. iam comfortable with my mixing enough to not master anything. i just need them on the same level as other tracks so i can at least dj mix them without adjusting any gain control that much
thanks guys for all ur help           saii.rave.ca

when i make a mmixdown if a track, i usually have the highest peak around -10 dB. It's quite ok if you export in 24bits or higher.

master volume is not what you should care about while producing          http://soundcloud.com/aedem

http://www.har-bal.com/index.php?/mastering-tutorial.php

you have to aim for an avg rms of around -12 to -10

u will need mastering plugins = eq, compressor, limiter etc. to inject the needed power.

the above of course is in addition to a decent monitoring system and environment.

Good Luck!

check out the sources, get it soundin like u want it to sound. if the track is not gonna be mastered, learn it yourself and there u go

otherwise u should give it to mastering, without clippin master at the resolution desired by the engineer....usually between -6db up to -2db

yea mandari...thats what i want to do...all by myself...
remember, this is just all electronic psy so you dont really really really have to master them
its not like you have a symphony of an orchestra and your worried that the violins are gonna peak in one of the strokes, you no what i mean
so yea if you have any ideas how its best to do it at home on my mac...just a quick and efficient way to limit...like a video tutorial or something buy or download or a pdf file...anything that will just teach me a decent way of maximizing the track for big PA systems.
im sure there is a way with a few plugins in ableton or 3rd party
thanks guys!!           saii.rave.ca

know your meters(as good as you can) and than you can squeeze alot..If you premaster by number and not ears.. but you should do both.. it can be tricy
also if you cut a bit of low-end you save alot of Rms and can boost some more... low-end takes much of the headroom...

So its all about balance and compromise...
if you want heavy bass you cant boost it too much..

I heard that between -12 and -9 RMS is a good number to keep within... but of course it depends on the music...

Good luck
