loudness, it's not necessary to worry about it so much.

All these 'rules' and stuff are severely blocking my inspiration.
Whenever I'm working on something, I get worried about whether this or whether that, and maybe I'm doing the wrong thing.

Does it sound worng? if not i dont think it is wrong...
at least not on the system you play it on
anyway just do some tests and read up on what you worry about....
and i agree with you pipe&slippers. But its easy to start doing things that you should not do.. like trying to maximize your mix before its done... hehe

One thing I do try though, is to listen to the mix with my own "mastering" (-10RMS nothing too much) just to see how much it brings up the delays and reveb tails of the parts.
On some really tight lead lines, the delay is integral of the lead line's feel and I usually have it slightly less wet than what I think sounds enough. Trying out the mix with the "mastering" enabled, I get a better idea of how loud the delay returns really are.

I wish they would sort out their download page.
I am waiting to get my hands on that meter.
Though I wish they colour coded the RMS meter so it changed colour past -14dB. That way I could use it with a calibrated monitoring level (K-system 14) more easily.
Its a step in the right direction though. |

u wait 4 a plug to give ur overcompressed sound back some dynamics, right?
i like loud stuff; good loud stuff. but in general i'm with nick. u can't go wrong if you care enough about frequency spectrum, stereo width and presence of each element. if you make a perfect mix, altough on low volume, it's quite easy to raise rms after. that means a good mix can be made loud anywayz imo (correct me if i'm wrong).
if u prefer to fuck up your bass for loudness, then people with bad soundsystems and/or taste should listen. i don't care |
