One of these what to do threads again. I was planning to buy a novation ks-4 due to the fact that it's cheap and it is supposed to be good. But, it's like v-station with more functions right? I really dont like the nature of the sound it (v-station)has. Too cheesy in a way... and too soft! Now i was wondering if novations supernova 2 would be a better choise. Is it totally different from the k-series? How much is a decent price? Every synth is somehow fucked Except those that you can't afford. And was it so, that ms2000(r) has a 4 voice polyphony so that it can only run 4 patches per track?

And please don't tell something like "get vst" or "first learn to make music" and stuff, although i have nothing against vst synths

want a truly different sound that related to human nerve and you want to call it synth? get Neuron Synth by Hartman: http://namm.harmony-central.com/WNAMM02/Content/Hartmann_Music/PR/Neuron-large.jpg

you might will get addicted to that four full nerve contack joysticks, jog and whells

check the designer (axel hartman) fdbck about his creation at their website at: http://www.hartmann-music.com/home/de/news/future_music_0302.html

please don't blame me for the price (eventho' slightly cheaper now) cuz sure it's worth it.
Spectralis from Radical Tecnologies I heard also good as synth, as step sequencer and as filter in one machine, cheaper than neuron, and "different" too . But if you want the obvious good synths such Viruses and Clavias in their price level, then back to your judgement. Oh, the Supernova, so far I heard all good thing about this rich of voices dude.

That spectralis is Fantastic! I wonder if the ks-4 or supernova is capable of that kind of sound? ( http://www.spectralis.de/demos/spectralis_vintage_arp.MP3 )

You can really hear the difference between vst and hardware in that clip

People seem to like the Alesis Micron and Ion a lot.

Thail, think about it: Supernova 2 was one of the biggest virtual analog synth when it was sellable on the market (other in the same league: Waldorf Q, Nord Lead 3 and Virus C). Unfortunately, it was discontinued. No, SN2 is far away from VStation, it has an incredible engine and can make all of sounds used in psytrance. I don't know the reason, but the psy producers prefer tha NL2, which is a great engine, but SN2 has much more power (filters, effects, FM synthesis and oscillator control) than the NL2! The bottom line is, it is overused in eurotrance but underused in psytrance (what's an advantage for their owns now

Korg ms2000, has 4 note poly and only 2 parts, so you can't play more then 2 patches at the same time.

as for ks4, of course it can not be compared to supernova, but it definitelly is more then v-station. i will not go into technical specs of ks but tell you what: the basses on this thing can go so deep so deep, that sometimes i have hard time taming them.
just like with any other VA synth, it can sound as good as you can program sounds on it: and programing matrix on ks is wicked. unlike v-station: it has expanded waveform selection for osc and lfo sections, 2 and 4 pole filters with selectable HPF, LPF and BPF + vocoder, cool effects.

In my personal opinion, ks is everything but soft and cheesy.
i am in no way associated with novation, but thruth to be told, i pretty much like my ks-4.           www.venomous2.com

nord lead 3/2 or access virus C (Ti, powercore) if u want a synth that has already made it's mark on psytrance (or 'overused' as some would say).

hartmann neuron, alesis ION if u want a more original synth.

moog voyager, alesis andromeda if u want analogue sound in a modern coat.

look at secondhand waldorfs (Q, microwave, Xtk, wave), they sound absolutely fabulous for psytrance. But they went bankrupt so u can only buy them second hand.

then u have the roland JP-8000, the korg MS2000, the novation supernova, access virus A. But those are outdated imho. They still sound great ofcourse!! But don't buy them if u have to pay more then 600€ (don't buy the korg for more then 350€).

my personal favorite is the elektron monomachine...

Im prolly gonna buy the supernova 2 rack-version for 650e. I think it's a decent price when considering that a nord costs atleast 1000e secondhand. Right?

hi guys, in my opinion a really good synth to buy is a microKORG, don mess it up wit micro controler, it is an actual synth, it is really powerfull, it hasa great set of presets, the settings such as oscilator, LFO, ilters are extremely powerfull but they r not so pro, i would say it the only bad thing about the synth, and it cost me only 600 canadian dollars, turn it into american its like 480, so good luck pickin the synth

cheers
