I just need this space to grieve. :/

Woke up this morning with a Boot Disk Failure and my HDD is totally inaccessable. All my track WAVs and project files are most probably gone forever and all I have of two new tracks are MP3s.

It's a sad day. Luckily I have all my samples backed up, and my CD collection on CD.

Wish me luck in the hard journey of building a new hard drive into some sembelance of the treasure trove it's suceeding.

Has this ever happened to anyone? Did you also go through the 7 stages of grief? (I'm fortunately on Accpetance and Hope. )

that really sucks, man.

but, honestly, you don't have anyone but yourself to blame for not backing up your stuff. it's computers, shit breaks all the time. and now with harddrives and media being so cheap, it was only laziness that stopped you from having multiple internal harddrives/external harddrives/burned dvds.

i'm not sure if you lost your system partition. but if you did, i would also suggest to you, once you reinstall/tweak xp and reinstall all your apps, take an image (using norton ghost or whatever) of that and store the image in multiple locations. at least this way, if this happens again, you can have your entire setup back in 10 mins.

but you just gotta back up your shit as often as you can.

This has happened to me aswell a couple of times.
The last time it was just b4 i started backing up the disk, but i found a solution.

I found some recovery software that found very much of what i lost even after i formatted.

The information does not get erased entirely.
So there is still hope, don't remember what this software was called, but i'll have a look in my prog dir during the evening and i will give u the name of it.

didn't mean to be harsh, but it's just one of those basic things...

but, yeah, definitely don't give up so easily. do a search for Hiren's BootCD collection. it has a bunch of tools that might be worth a shot, if you really want to get your stuff back. but you will need to put some time in to figure out how to work them and to just keep trying.

good luck.

Yeah, the technicians can probably still recover most of your data... get a hold on one if you don't find software           Monitoring devices, know where you go

I feel you man I lost a year and a half worth of work about 2 months ago. I bought a 320GB hard drive to back up data on. I transfered everything to it and about 3 months later it wont power on at all. It doesn't show up in my BIOS or anything.

I have older stuff than that on DVD but all my newer stuff is gone.

I'm going to start burning a DVD of each track with it's data when I'm done and then backup to a hard drive as well. That way one or the other should work.

For me it's a restarting point. I've learned a lot in a year, so I'll just apply it to all the new tracks I write. There are a couple songs that were amazing and I'll never be able to recreate--and that kind of makes me sad though.           ~Airyck~

damm

there is big chanse you CAN restore it.
there are planty of companies who do just that..
if your work worth to you more then what they ask... worth a shot.

and yes for 150$ 1TB drive is good idea

im about to buy one , since i dont trust my 500GB backup to be safe (one drop and its gone..)

so i will use exacly this steps by Rosengren (as 2nd backup , 500GB is too little anywayz)

1: Get a 1tb external drive
2: Put track roots on it
3: Put samplelibraby on it
4: Put any Vsti or Vst included in your basic setup on it
5: unplug drive
6: Put drive in nuclear winter safe place
7: Relax

Same thing happened to me last year. Now I just use one external backup drive and burn the project files to dvd every time I finish a track..           You believe in the users?
Yeah, sure. If I don't have a user, then who wrote me?
