Can anyone help me with that ripping saw sound that is so predominant in psytrance. i am looking for a slow door creaking sound.

maybe if anyone has an example patch for LinPlug FreeAlpha3 or Vanguard or like wise. just so that i can see how it was made. after i get it the first time, i think i will be set for life. cheers for any help.

ps. i have checked out the mother of all threads, but can;t seem to find it

Use the search... there's about 4 different threads on how to make it!

Basics: single sawtooth oscillator, hi-pass filter with res at about 50%, play low notes with lots of pitch bend, sweep the filter.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

Don't lie!!

Also, check Cosmosis' website - he's giving away free albino patches. Absolute treasure!

Check Sanskara records - Hydraglyph is also got a couple of patches.

Other than that check all the mothers thread.

Good Luck!           Rather than feeling that you're about to have the rug pulled from under you, let me teach you how to dance on a flying carpet

if i get what you are aimning at i would use an fm synth. this is how i would do it on what i have, a virus

use a sine wave on the carrier and a square wave on teh modulater.

as you chnge the modulators tuning it will change the rate of modlation of the carrier. in other words how fast the "Saw" moves.

after that set the carriers tuning to get a high ptiched or low pitched saw. i find that best results are when sinking them.

u could place an LFO witha strange shape on the modulators tuning to give a more random effect.

hope i helped.           Work like you don't need the money.

You can do this loads of ways. I think the most fun is to put a square and a saw wave together maybe an octave apart, but both quite low so you get more of the overtones and less bass when you filter it.

On some synths you can control pitchbending via the note velocity and this makes it sound way more acidy than just straight notes, maybe assign a pitching LFO and go nuts with the filter (hi-pass or band is nice) and add a little distortion and sometimes a flanger makes for very nice!

It's also interesting to put a notch filter sweeping over it at certain parts. Not mandatory, but it does something else that sounds kind of weird... which is nice.

maybe i didn;t know what the sound was called...

the Sanskara patches were good. Similar sound produced from the tips i have found in the Mother threads (:P)...

however; for example i am using the "tearing stab" albino patch from hydraglyph (you can find it on my site http://www.thecheekygrin.com/Tearing_Stab.FXP )

how can i slow this stab down in Albino so the note moves slower and is more streched out but keeps the same key... is there a note velocity or something i am missing... i am using Albino 3 demo

I suggest you record the sound to wave and then timestretch it.

ha ha!!!! got it. that is exactly the sound i have been trying to get for so long. i found that all i needed to do was to copy and past the middle section of the WAV to stretch it out longer.

and to think, i have been trying to do this all in synths instead of my trusty old CoolEdit'96!

this has got me thinking about other ways of modifying synth sounds to get them to sound right...

here is what i was looking for... needs a little playing with;

i made a VSTi to do this a while ago. it's called 'squelch', it's fairly basic but it does make... er... squelchy sounds.

yeah, it's heaps of fun! i started with SynthMaker as well but couldn't afford to buy it. i did make some fairly complex synths (additive, drawable waveforms with big matrixes) but in the end i wasn't spending any time making music

it really got me into modular synthesis though... it would be sweet to be able to ReWire synthedit!

Yeah synthmaker makes you able to do more complex synths but damn the documentation to synthmaker is beyond a disgrace, still havenŽt been able to figure out how to connect a FFT-analyser.
But yeah WeŽre working on a highly effective Additive synth atm. I guess weŽll hand it out to yaŽll when its done           Demand recognition for the Armenian genocide 1915
