audiophile use highend hifi , they want the closest sound to original recording, wihtout any coloration , there is sure lot of hifi speaker made wiht that in mind that smoke lot of monitors

Well I have a possibility to check my mixes on audiophile setup (Custom built player --> Lavry gold --> 2 BBC vintage tube amps --> Altec's Voice of Theater , all connected with mega expensive cords etc.) So I know what is a nuturally sounding PA. Yes it kinda helps. Yes it shows mixing errors. It shows even more - how unnatural most electronic music sounds nowayday. It sounds dead, absolutely dead. But I never ever met ANY other system cheaper than $10k that can come at least a little bit close to that sound. So do I really need to take that into account? Most of the people listen to music on their laptops anyways. Sure i wanna my mixed sound really good, but that kind of systems is truly overkill. Moreover most common mixing mistakes go not because of the monitors themselves. Room acoustics, monitor placement, little experience, tired ears... these things happen much much more often then mistakes from not-so-linear monitor's frequency-response.

agree but a hifi system dont have to cost that much to be on par with 700$$ dollars monitors.. lot of these monitors like genelec adam are made with hifi parts assembled and cheap low cost amp for example.i think dynaudio bm6a drivers are used in their hifi line too and probably some even better drivers are used on some models , it s not like hifi and monitors are night and day different it just depend with what in mind is designed the speaker
your statement was wrong saying a cheap monitors will be better than any headphone or hifi, it s not my own experience when i was using cheap monitors , i was mixing more on my hifi cause it was just translating better ( my hifi speakers cost more than cheap monitors though ).i also mastered tunes made on headhpone that sound good, personaly i never mixed totally on headphone dont really like it but guys that are used to listen music on headphone and mix on these get good sounding mix .
headphone mix tend to sound with a narrower soundstage it seems, but i will talke narrow soundstage any day over overproccessed mix made in crapy rooms

Really? Ok, my sarcasm mode is OFF, what HiFi system that can go as good as, say, Yamaha's MSP7, which are around $700? Please turn off the vintage mode too, as those monitors need a decent amp that can cost up to the same price as the monitors themselves.

ok, probably you are talking about D amps which are built into Adams. Fine, but they are sound very good! Do anyone need to care much about what components are there if the monitoring works? Man, my mixes went way up from low budget Tannoy Reveal's, modern KRK's, Yamaha's, Mackie's (MK2 ones) with these "hifi components" monitors like Adams.

never worked on those ones, but I did experience Dyn's Air 20 series with both stereo and 5.1 mixes (pop, TV and of course psytrance) and find those amazingly transparent and clean monitoring. This is when you hear every 0.2 dB of Eq on hihats... Not sure if they have anything from Dyn's hifi but if yes, well, I want that HiFi, man

Well If you make yourself go thru the initial post again, you would probably notice that the guy is asking for help of choosing the cheapest monitors which does not include expensive headphones + time to getting used to it or expensive hifi or anything else like that.

Ok, fine, but will you personally recommend anyone using a hifi system instead of any monitors (up to $1000)? Will you help this guy tune a hifi specially for his needs? If no, why mention that at all?

Overprocessing is not about monitoring. It is about acoustics, lack of experience and shadows in the ears due to alcohol abuse.

my point was just to say someone that have decent hifi may not need cheap monitors... and good headphones may lead to better mix than expensive or cheap monitors in a not really great room .it s not related to the topic but your fist statement that was bullshit to me,that made me over react maybe... back to the topic dont want to hijack more the thread

Bit the bullet tonight and ordered a set of Yamaha HS80m's after much, much research and reading of reviews. Can't wait to get them here!
The wallet stings

I bought a pair of HS80's a few months ago, and I love 'em.

I also treated my room as well. It makes a huge difference. I used this design for mine:

I have six clouds, 16 on the walls. The gap between the wall and the material due to the design with the frame backing, instead of the frame being around the material, allows for a bit of extension in the low freq.'s.

Also, for material I used AIRROCK HD. The high density part is important. You probably won't be able to find anything other than consumer grade rockwool at Home Depot, OBI, or whatever store of this sort you have where you live. I had to find the material I wanted to use online, and then find a distributor who sells to construction companies, etc. If you can find one, then they may be able to order an extra few packs of panels for you.

^^ Absolutely the way to go if you are on low budget.
