well.... i cant really say what will happen btwn now and august, so I guess I can say, with honesty, and optimism...

I MIGHT be going to Burning Man. I have never been out there and Ive lived in nevada for 23 yrs now. And yeah yeah i know... I always tell myself i cant afford it, or i need to prepare earleir in the year, or other mantras/excuses/justifications. Sometimes the excuse was work, so its not like the time was entirely unproductive.

Ill keep positive, see what manifestations realize... Honestly the idea is more attractive than it ever has been the more i thnk of it...

*And funny story, but, I do in fact mix (digi with Live, fine with cds) proggy, psytrance, AND psytech, most of the time not in teh same mix (though Parasense-Iron Punk would rock mixed with say, Midimiliz' XDream remix on Non Standards, or something like the last track on Kino Okos first album followed by idk, lets say OOOD-the Humming, that sounds interesting, why not). I already have field copies of most of my cds.

Also I often throw some tech from netlabels that i find trippy into the mix (IE grouped in with techno in general but trippy imo), mainly i have AntiRitmo in mind when i say that.
[Some of the artists who I first found on Digital DIamonds have nice stuff on AntiRitmo as well, Hiroshi Oki in particular i recommend one digs up, on both labels if possible. Idk the status of antiritmo tho, last i checked there were major interface changes which didn't encourage optimism.]*

oh yeah i have some mixes

http://www.mudpeople.lsdxm.com/tek120.mp3
for anyone who wants
the first is nighttime-facemelting Ektoplazm tribute, the second is tech (Underworld included ). These are both digital mixes and are just material, and i guess blending and transition, representative, not a demo of my 1337 mixing sKilz. Im fine on cdjs.

Edit; and, i can send an email too Well theres a few mixes there, anyone who wants to hear em is welcome to, and OP if my email gets to you before you read this then, uh have fun, dont take any wooden nickels, contact of ignited canines with unprotected appendage is not advisable...           .

50,000 people in the middle of an inhospitable desert?

I'll take 100 people in the beautiful woods over that any day personally :\            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

Burning Man is not a rave, there's a lot more going on than just music. I love forest parties too but seriously, you should see the crazy art that people bring to the playa. Also the massive pyroytechnics... kinda hard to do that in the woods.

yeah, I watched the live stream from last year a bit and I've seen plenty of art pictures - I know its more than just a rave. I won't discount the art some of it is amazing looking, but I'm not so into throwing down ~1-2 grand to go see massive art.

I'm also not super amazed by massive pyrotechnics...honestly I see it as kind of decadent and wasteful.

The main thing keeping me away though is the people - too many damn people. I can barely handle more than a couple hundred let alone multiple thousands. Also, most of the people I've met who identify as Burners are douchebags.

I know plenty of people that go that are awesome...but yeah I'd rather invest in the local psy scene than drop all that on BM. To each their own            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

i feel that its a good place for those who cant flagrantly fly flags of freak to do so. And a really good thing to have around, when fearmongery walks the earth.

Loll will, yeah, its never been an attractive aspect dealing with 50k people.

But dammit im sick of explaining myself, Id go at this point just to never hear it again...

Yes Reno is close. Yes I wouldnt mind going. No I dont know where to get all the necessary funds for supplies... Which has been my story every year.

If anyone is willing to help me out and take care of all that for me Id not only happily go, but happily do all thedriving, packing, setup, cooking, camp cleaning, etc, but so far no good.

I would say that while its nto a rave, there are pretty much all sorts of EDM styles represented as well as prety much all sorts of music styles. Ive always been of the idea that the whole gig is, heres a place for you to do whatever, try not to get hurt.

Last year i spend 3000 euro's to go to burning man and it was worth every last cent! And it was worth every minute travelling from Amsterdam to get there.
You are seriously under estimating how rocking BM is! After 11 years of festivals in Europe I thought nothing could amaze me anymore... But BM did!

If you are already in the area its not that expensive. Just go! Bring your own food that you'd would otherwise eat anyway and enjoy yourself!           soundcloud.com/supergroover

@willsanquil: If you've already decided BM is not the place for you, and you don't like crowds, well... no amount of convincing will change your mind, nor should it. And that's OK. Better to know that now instead of after arriving in the desert. Also, I will not deny that there are some bad apples in the mix, and some people who are just ridiculously fanatic about the whole thing - I can see how either one would leave a bad impression.

@mudpeople: There are a limited number of two types of reduced price tickets: "limited income" and scholarship." Basically you write the BM organization an application that explains how awesome you are, and all the ways you could contribute, but don't have the funds to attend. If you're accepted you get a ticket for ~$175. I'm pretty sure the deadline for that is long past for this year though.

I went last year, I bought my ticket like two days before and hitch hiked there from colorado, I spent about 100 bucks on groceries and water and thats it... basically i went for about 500 bucks. Was it worth it? yes

Was it difficult? you bet your ass. Mostly because of the insane crap like 50,000 sleep deprived, exhausted and hungover people trying to exit through one door at once.

I probably won't go again unless I get involved with some kinda art project with a grant or I happen to be passing through the area.

I agree with these sentiments. My sister is pretty big about going to BM and I just don't really care - it's never seemed like my scene, from what I can tell from vids and friends. It seems like a giant, hot and dry Shambhala (~10000person festival in Western Canada, our Burning Man) and Shambhala, well a really wild experience, feels like a giant shitshow.

Whereas - my lovable 300-3000 person festivals in Eastern Canada/Eastern US are just phenominal. Vibe, people, and all... You can leave a case of beer unnattended near the dancefloor, come back 12h later and only 1 can is missing - with a perfectly rolled sweet-smelling phattie and a little "hope this is a fair trade!" note in place of it.

IDK, maybe I'm wrong. But the smaller and more intimate a festival, the better time I've had. I can only assume that means that a festival as big as BM would still be fun, but lack the intimacy and spiritually rejuevenating vibe I love so much.           Dance, even if you have nowhere to do it but your living room. ~Kurt Vonnegut

So Im pretty much not going to be going this year, lots of other more immediate things need my attention/money, and besides its WAY too late in the year.

I dont know... I just dont really feel that BM is really my kind of gig, I mean, I know its got many parallels to psytrance culture, but it really isn't the same thing per se. I mean, theres psy culture represented there of course, but theres pretty close to every culture represented there.

Unless a miracle happens I wont be there.           .
