try dropping by the SF weekly event Synchronize. Its every wednesday eve and quite a social place. Real easy to meet people there and make contacts....
Its located at a bar called Il Pirata and its on 16th St @ Portrero

Dark trance is the most popular sub-genre of psy in SF. There are multiple international producers, respected dj's and established labels of this type based there
Full on is not so popular in SF anymore. There are many who wish it was, and there are still several great dj's and crews that cater to it, but its heard less and less at events these days.
There is something of a middle-ground sound popular in SF these day as well though. This is basically the Geomagnetic / Vaporvent style
Progressive is also becoming increasingly popular in SF though with some solid djs / labels and scheduled event nights
For good morning full on, I recomend going to down south to the LA scene. Their musical styles tend to run lighter and groovier than SF's harder , darker, heavier style
