Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone had come across, or knows about how to make (if possible) a live pitch changing tool, controlled via midi keyboard.
I.e. - You can route a sound or sample (perhaps crucially; a sound coming from an instrument, microphone or line-in) through a plugin that would bend to the correct pitch when played on a keyboard.
I know pitch shifting tools exist - some real-time and some take time to process the sample for better quality.. however, I really want to be able to play solo keyboard parts, live, using a tone or vocal or instrument coming into my computer and having it bent in real time.
Um, I hope that I explained that to some level of intelligibility!
If anyone knows of anything like that, I would be eternally grateful.

you mean something like a piano roll with each note playing a differently pitch shifted version of the same sample/instrument?
if it's that simple and you're using ableton, you can open up the sampler and drop a sample in and use your keyboard to play the individual piano roll notes
however, if you need pitch shifting w/out any time stretching, i'm clueless... but there might be some tool for that as well.
edit: what do you mean by "live pitch shifting"?

I don't know how I could have explained myself better. It is exactly as it sounds.. Live stream.. (not sampled, not pre recorded). Whatever is flowing through the channel (be it from a microphone or instrument or whatever...) When I play a piano/keyboard, the stuff going in, gets immediately bent/tuned/shifted to the notes I'm hitting on a midi keyboard.
So, (! random example !) I'm in the middle of a live set, I trigger a totally mad sample of George Bush doing some speech about Iraq.. then I start playing some melody on my Yamaha midi keyboard and the speech instantly bends and follows the notes I'm playing.
Yes.... no? Or is this just too wild to comprehend!-------------- Studio Engineer --------------

you need a realtime pitch-shifting plugin. Discord won't do that.
what host do you have? basically you need this
but with Scale source set to external midi, or any other plugin that is able to do that. www.overdreamstudio.com

I use Cubase 6, but the guys I work for are looking to incorporate this effect in a live set using Ableton.
Thanks Makus, I really appreciate that suggestion and your input. That does look like it would do the job! I mean, it has the right looking options.
Have you tested it yourself? Unfortunately, I won't be back at the studio for 4 days myself.

This plugin goes along with Cubase. I can't say it is really transparent and works unnoticable, especially on big ranges. This is not good if we talk about changing vocals or instruments in a natural way, but may play really well if you need to make some special effect. Which is what, I guess, you are after, right?
I used it many times, because I like it's special flavor when it comes to making effects. Check out that vocals at around 2:10 :
Playing with formant yeilds nice sound when pushed to almost maximum
On the other hand if you are looking for the most transparent pitch-shifting, you better look into Auto-Tune (which is also might be used to create special fx in realtime).
I do see now what I missed from your request - I didn't quite understand what "real-time" means in this context. I didn't know it's another term for the method when pitchshifting doesn't effect input's duration. good luck!

I will try these suggestions and get back to you.
This all has to be purchased for the studio, so looking for the most budget v results value.
