I agree, there is no place like Goa, and Goa is certainly not what it used to be...the vibe there was certainly unique... cannot be compared to any other place...           Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:

I am going there mainly for work anyhow, but I am sure I will be able to find at least a hand full of trance interested expats in Siem Reap. If not...you can find me sitting under the 3rd tree to the left of Angkor Blast Off Pizza with my headphones on.

just spent three months in Nepal, here`s some thoughts:

Nepal has a huge tourism sector: The people there know what a tourist is and they have experienced them for a long time.

Kathmandu is dirty, disorganized and relatively expensive compared to india. For a place that only has eletricity 8 hours a day the price of dhal bhat is rarely less that 100 nepalese rupees, roughly 1 euro. There are lots of hippies and freaks passing through kathmandu, but really no one stays there very long. Nepal has been a destination for travellers to wait while their indian visa renews. This is one of the main reason hippies go there.

Pohkara is the Goa of nepal for sure. It`s a large lake with beautiful views of the Annapurna Range. The scene is small, and it`s influenced by the powerful tourism industry there. Mountian Madness did something though, having watched the trance scene go from completely dormant in January to full power by May was very interesting.

enough hippies and wierdos collected by that lake that a community developed. With many people camping in the forest or the shores of the lake and renegade parties occuring almost daily. You could feel that frequency, that rising tide. There is quite a strong rainbow, and acoustic music family there as well. What I like about Pohkara is that its not a huge Koh Phangan, it`s small enough that everyone goes to the same couple chia shops and chillum places.

I feel completely changed by it. Mountain Madness was the first time I went to a festival that felt like one of those massive european style festivals, like ozora or voov. MM was smaller but it had a feeling like a huge festival, maybe it was the resort, or the beer tent, or the people. I learned alot from that festival, it was fun but maybe not exactly inline with the old goa spirit. but logistically it made the party a reality, and seeing ajja and atriohm for 40 euro in nepal was the right combination to move the freaks.

At one point I felt like the scene was sporta a waiting room or maybe an old folks home. Where all the acid casualties from around south asia sit in rocking chairs and smoke big chillums and wait until they can go to rishikesh. Nepal is interesting, I think if you want to see a healthy trance community go now, but who knows, the faces and places change so fast there the waves may have crested and are already receding.

The most magical place in the universe is right here and now, right where you are reading this. Goa even in its hey day couldn't hold a flame to that, imho.
