New Goa will happen but I doubt that it will be within this scene. Maybe it will evolve out of it but Goa was another Woodstock and we will have more of that in the future. By the grace of God there will be another golden age of music. I really would like to see it happening from the beginning but it's a matter of luck, really.
When it comes to psytrance, the form grows over the content. We can try and do our best but entropy is in the process and this scene is doomed to degenerate. It happened in every place and in every time to every counter-cultural movement.
For those claiming that the old spirit of Goa is gone - you are right. As Aristotle said:
"Time crumbles things; everything grows old under the power of Time and is forgotten through the lapse of Time."
So, blame time But what can we do? Drop the scene? Alright, but what alternatives do we have?
What really got me hooked on this thread is that I'm looking for some new music to stimulate my brain but I've failed to find something as awe-inspiring as psytrance. I was into occultish experimental industrial ambient and there is some good breakbeat pieces but I don't like the breakbeat. I see no alternatives. Is there any scene emerging that is worth exploring? |

Funny, I have the exact opposite feelings as you on these issues.
"Goa was another Woodstock" - were you at either??
"...this scene is doomed to degenerate" - why the fatalism? I see trance flourishing! new artists, new dancers on the floor - if the scene is degenerating, regenerate it! throw some kickass parties!
"...old spirit of Goa is gone - you are right" - spirit is a state of mind. For me the spirit of the old trance lives on even if a lot of people don't know what birthed the current incarnation of the 'scene'.
You see no alternatives? There are plenty of types of music out there, and you haven't heard all of the good psy out there either.

YES. Psychedelic techno/trance/house crossover sounds are coming back in whole new ways; check out Tetraktys, VX, Octave, Opsis, Opsy to get an idea of the variety of stuff out there.

<imho>
The state of trance in Goa back in the day cannot be recreated.
It's impossible. We can't turn back time.
That was the way it was as a unique point in history, musically, culturally and ... so many other factors.
We are not the same people with the same life experience of the world in those days.
We can only create new experiences based on what has been, what we have now and what we are unconsciously striving for.
The 'new Goa' can be anywhere, as everyone here is suggesting. And it certainly will be a new Goa. Not the same as the old one, but related historically.
</imho>
Like I said, the new Goa is in the park at the top of my hill. I am the only one on the dance floor, late at night with my ipod playing the best music I've ever heard in my life.

I think they have gotten pretty expensive these days. May be one reason for lack of smaller psy fest compared to things like Transformus and JamBand fest. |

Deerfields is a truly wonderful, magical place and everytime I've made a trip there, the vibe was spectacular. Each time I've driven 16+ hours to get there. (Goa Gil 1, and World Bridge I, II, III)
It seems you're right though, they do Transformus, Goa Gil in May, Touch Samadhi events, the World Bridges in August, and a number of people go for Jam Festivals there (Sound Tribe Sector Nine, Disco Biscuits, played there a while back), but I don't think they really know how to respect the land from what I've heard.. You put a bunch of wookies together and you get trash all over the place and some Ecstasy/Molly almost-overdoses. |

Plus, though it is a large property of 940 acres, the main dancefloor areas aren't very far from the neighbors, who have complained several times, or so I believe. |
