Looking for a midi gater to use with Live

Can anyone recommend a good midi gater to use with Live? I'm looking for something that will let me set a gate that isn't static and follows the midi notes I program. (I.e. route my midi pattern from one channel over to another to gate the fx from the original pattern. Or something similar.)
I found dfxMidiGater but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to route it in Live, if anyone has experience with it or can recommend an alternative it'd be a big help.

Ableton has a weird way of working with the midi VST's can receive in a chain.
1. Load your dfxMidiGater effect on the end of the channel you want to silence with the notes (say MyAudioTrack)
2. Make a separate midi channel (Ctrl+Shift+T), make a clip and play a note in the clip
3. Open the In/Out section, if not visible (Ctrl+Alt+I), and in the midi track you want to set the "MIDI to" to the channel with the audio (MyAudioTrack). When doing that, under the MIDI To appears all the effects in the selected channel, so select "1-dfx MIDI Gater".
And that's it. Whatever MIDI messages come out of your midi channel goes into the selected effect in the selected channel.

Do you guys know how I can get my version of Live to recognize the VST? I drag the .vst file into the folder, restart Live, etc. but its not there.....
any ideas?

I just pulled the .dll down from KVR. (http://www.kvraudio.com/product/dfx_midi_gater_by_smart_electronix)
Once I put it into my plugins folder it detected fine, maybe you have a weird version? |

ya, dfxmidigate, hmmmm i am using the mac version... maybe that is the issue... idk, i will keep trying but if anyone has experienced this i would appreciate advice

I've tried to use the native Gate plugin as a traditional midi-only gater but am not quite sure of the correct method. |
