what does it do? sounds to me like some tape saturation no? or is it actual distortion?
the best saturators, drives and distortions i have worked with are scope modular modules from the adern flexor pack, but these are native to the dsp cards.

I like the disto in this pack; http://www.kammerl.de/audio/
Its 'gentle' sounding.
D16 plugs are nice too (I cant remember whcih is the disto)
Usually I use Renoise native
