Does any of you guys have a controller for your daw? What I look at, is a surface with lots of faders about 24 and a few knobs or/and buttons for each faders. Also I do not want to spend millions.

I'm not interested in beringher.

There is a few company out there that sells kits one can assemble or customize.

does anyone has suggestions or experience there.

cheers

hi seppa,

have you checked out doepfer regelwerk?

http://www.doepfer.de/rw_d.htm

it's discontinued as far as i know, but you might find a used one if you like it.

then, there's doepfer drehbank:

http://www.doepfer.de/db.htm

it's also sold out but may be available used.

hope i was able to help you a bit. i also don't like the behringer controllers (or behringer in general..). and yes, there's not much _simple_ controllers on the market, faders, potis, buttons and that's it. unfortunately. i started to build my own controller some time ago but paused it because of time shortage

cheers!

There is a few with 16 faders and buttons like peavey PC1600 and kenton control freak.
But AFAIK regelwerk would be the only one with 24 faders if you don't build your own.

I'm about to get a Ozonic myself since i need to simplify my setup, and that gives a decent amount of faders and knobs, 4 ch firewire audio in/out and a kb, and is cheap and portable.
But thats only 9 faders with buttons, 8 knobs and a joystick.

Hello bros!

Im on the same think , looking for a controller, dtd thanks for the link i was searching for a controler as Drehbank, with a lot of knowbs, to use when tweeking, i was thingking about a BCR2000 by behringer, but you said that you dont like behringer controllers, im a rockie, could you tell me, please, for what reason you don´t like it.

Sorry for so much questions, i have one more, it is possible to control a plugin synth in ableton live, for to controllers at the same time. For example the drehbank to twist the knobs and at the same time been playing on a keybord with another controller triggering to been adviced of how the patch goes.

Thank you so much.

Peace!!!!!, shine on!! .... always

hi Seppa, sorry for taking so long to answer

I got most of the components from a friend who builds specialized measuring instruments for the industry, and some components from www.distrelec.com

Basically you need a MCU (microcontroller unit), which you can order at the above shop for example. I used one from www.microchip.com. But when i finish the controller, i'll use an www.atmel.com controller. The next "big" components are the display and faders. The display was ordered from distrelec as well. The faders were from ALPS electric, www.alps.com. I think you can use cheaper ones as well. The rest of the components are small stuff like resistors, capacitors, muxers and leds.

I hope i was able to help you,

Shaka_,

about behringer, it's a two-side answer. They build cheaper quality gear in general, that's why i don't like their controllers and products in general and wanted to mention it such that you have a good look before you buy. on the other hand, they offer something for a good price, which might be just what is needed. if you want to buy something from them, check it out and compare quality/price.

best,

I'm looking to expand my controller setup a bit, and DIY seems nice, but expensive and much work.
I'm not sure if it turns out so much cheaper than a mawzer or regerwerk if you want to make units of similar quality.

One solution that can be quite flexible and cheap would be to do something like this guy:
http://www.monotouchlive.com

Basically it's a DJ control surface made with synthmaker that you operate with a touchscreen.
I had a play with SM and it seems fairly easy to create control surfaces in it so what you get it something like a lemur where you can build various setups and switch screens with a button.
The drawback compared to a lemur is the fact that you only can move one control at the time, and you don't get the physics stuff to play around with unless you make a more advance software solution.
And of course the flexibility is at the cost of tactile touch.

But anyway it can be an option...an ok touch screen don't have to be expensive nowadays.
For example you can get this for $85:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ELO-Intellitouch-USB-touchscreen-touch-screen-15-kit_W0QQitemZ280123798310QQihZ018QQcategoryZ3697QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
That's a top quality acoustic wave screen that you can put on top of a 15" LCD.
Mount that all in a nice case so you can have it lying flat on a table and you have a poor mans lemur for less than €200.

For live or DJ use the lack of multi touch would be a bit limiting, but my plan is to use one in the studio for step sequencing and controlling a few favourite synths, and for that I think it could be really nice.           (``·.¸(``·.¸(``·.¸¸.·`´)¸.·`´)¸.·`´)

There is the Doepfer Pocket Electronic diy kit for customized controllers. It's the control circuit of their former Pocket Control. It's not that cheap, 75 euro. 16 controls, but you could combine two or more.
http://www.doepfer.de/pe.htm

The links to the touch screen/controller are great. Maybe I should look for my soldering iron

I came across this company who could be helpful if you like to build your own hardware:
http://www.schaeffer-ag.de
Seems like a cheap way to a get series-production quality front panel.           (``·.¸(``·.¸(``·.¸¸.·`´)¸.·`´)¸.·`´)

you're right, i also think it's not going to be anywhere near cheaper as a commercial one, if you count the components + your work time.

cheers
