The Gathering and Classical Mushroom were astounding in my eyes, but since then it all went downhill... With the exception of Dancing With Kadafi           www.soundcloud.com/vonoom | www.vonoom.bandcamp.com | www.facebook.com/vonoom | www.flikflakfamily.com

As much as I don't like the recent IM material it's still eons better than most of what Americans can hear live. It's not like the golden age of the Electronic music is here and IM are the antichrist. Give me at least one American or heck, even European, Electronic music band that has a better LIVE gig like Infected does? And I mean a MAINSTREAM and a BAND. Not some cool guy with a fancy MacBook Pro.
Yea, the list is very short.

even if they were the only people on earth doing that, it doesn't mean that they are doing it good. I ve seen IM live in Chicago few months ago and trust me, it was not worth the ticket. I am not saying it because I just want to ditch them and say that they fucked up because their music is not the same anymore, I don't care, they can be rapping or chanting and I would have loved it if they were doing it right or presenting something new, but they weren't. IM's performance as a band, from what I ve seen, is nothing inspiring.

I am sure they charge quite a heavy entrance price. If so they should as a minimum have a lead singer who can sing in tune.           www.beatagency.dk

First of – I can’t stand Infected Mushroom’s “new” sound. I still remember back in 2004 when I heard Infected Mushroom live a couple of times and lost all interest in them, so I am certainly not a fan.

That being said, a lot of people love it - many (especially new fans) obviously like it much better than their old stuff. I will probably never attend one of their live concerts again, but to me it looks like people are sincerely into it, despite of (or maybe because of) his voice.

After all these years (I was also whining over Duvdev’s singing since the beginning) I don't think cares at all about the criticism, and neither does their audiences. He’s a unique character, has charisma and it looks like the cheeky sound of his on-stage rambling is a good match to the rock/hiphop/psytrance fusion sound they are making. A silky smooth, always in tune voice like Michael Bolton would be a bad match, right?

For instance the sound of Björk is also liked barbed wire in my ears, but a lot of people call her brilliant, so she must be doing something right. She’s certainly unique, and I think Duvdev and Infected Mushroom can be said to be the same (although with a totally different sound/audience etc).

Cool story about the party/concert though. Looks like a good opportunity to get more people interested in Shpongle/Hallucinogen and also the older Infected Mushroom stuff.          DJ pr0fane (Iboga Records) | Multiphase

I would not dare to compare Björk with Dudev. There just a way too big difference in quality in Björks favor           www.beatagency.dk

Bjork’s voice is like barbed wire on my ears too. But this is her style because this is her style - not because she just can not hit a note right. BTW, I think her performance in “Dancer in the Dark” was fascinating.

And as for Bolton, he does not show any voice at all. I've heard his singing – as opposed to his usual "dramatic" wailing – once. Don’t remember what song it was – my mind automatically suppresses anything “Bolton” from my memory. But he can sing. For some reason he just prefers wailing instead.

Anyway, I agree with Pr0fane: leave IM to their fans. They don't care about anybody criticizing them on IsraTrance anyway. And they will continue doing “their thing”. I understand (and somewhat share) Rich’s concern: it’s hard to imagine the same person to be a fan of both groups. But stranger things have happened...

pr0fane, one day, your kids are going to find this post on the Internet where you compared Bjork to Duvdev, and man it's going to be embarrassing....

With IM consistently being one of my favorite electronic groups since I got into the genre about 5 or 6 years ago I have always come across praise for Simon Posford and how he has always been outdoing IM since the start. So I have gone out a listened to hallucinogen and shpongle plenty (I have never seen either group live).

Simon is certainly a brilliant musician but for some reason I could just never get that into his work. Something about IM just resonates with me and Simon could never hit that nerve. When I listen to Twisted I think it has some wicked sounds but I get really bored half way through the album. Same thing with shpongle. I just find it boring, I don't know why.

Something about the melodic selection that IM has has always just felt right to me, and I can listen to ANY of their tracks over and over. As much as their style has dramatically changed over the years I can always tell when it is Infected. But that is just me.

Haha, I knew I was going to get punked for that part of my comment

It wasn't a direct comparison - just an example of another singer that also sounds like barbed wire to me. Of course Björk and Duvdev are completely different, but I hope you got my point anyways           DJ pr0fane (Iboga Records) | Multiphase

If IM only played old stuff you could potentially bring a show to the goth/industrial crowd outside the west coast in the US. Shpongle though is too hippy.
"Better" is too subjective. Once you are away from the west coast(CA,sf, seatle, portland) in general american electronic music fans are into goth/industrial or modern new wave because its liked by the goth scene.
Old IM being better than old VNV nation or Ladytron is really subjective. Even being a big psy head I can't say that for sure.

There used to be a great Argentinian band, fusion of Rock and Techno "Santos Inocentes" they played electronica with a full band wayyyyy better than IM. (signed to Madonna's label)
here is a small link.

Also, I strongly believe that IM wanted always to sound and be like "Depeche Mode".
So it's a bit Psychedelic and all......but there are sooo many great live bands that play amazing electronica: KMFDM, Front242....the list goes on.

Peace.

first of all its not a mainstream rock promoter doing the party
tantra is quite know for banging psytrance parties in san francisco

second infected mushroom agreed to play a old school set
so no singing and stuff
the pure madness they were known for when they started
so that should be very interresting

the event is part of the annual electronic music parade in the city

I think they were talking about Goldenvoice not tantra

also I think, as posted earlier in this thread, they are doing two sets, one regular and one oldschool

had infected continued with their old style classical mushroom bp empire etc..and brought that to mainstream rather than bringing mainstream into their original style they could have had cult following..now they will face competition from All American Rejects and Blink 182 and Hip Hoppers..Shpongle and Hallucinogen on the other hand did not stray away from its roots and held on and continued to stick to its origins..eventually i feel they have a better chance at winning a grammy than IM and getting a mainstream record deal far more easily... Juno Reactor did not change the style did not adjust to the demands of the market ..and thus got to work on Matrix..IM has good written material but their music has no character left..its neither rock, nor pop, nor hiphop nor trance, nor psychedelic..its in the zone of emo..but not even that..the only thing thats working for them is their lyrics, they have some strong words which resonates with people, i think they should stop with electronic and simply become rock-hip hop band..people go to their gigs expecting trance music and get disappointed when they hear them singing rock rap...at least the old fans..they should be honest to them and not contest for DJ MAG 100           When death comes to your doorstep, make sure you are alive
