alright i know this might have been covered in part but out of intertest how would/do you do your live set...i mean not what you use but how? I have the chouce of ablton and cubase sx3 and a nord 3 and ks rack and im not buying anything else until i get to a better level...however when it comes to pullig it off i have in the past mixed down the track minus several lead type sounds which i leave in midi allowing live tweaking having the choice of four slots at one time on the nord...oh yes and i've got a roland guitar synth (damn fine piece of kit) but i wont attemnt to play a keyboeard as i will only mess it up unless its just to trigger a sample or soemthing...anyway this means the cpu only has to deal with on etrack of audio and some midi tracks..so it wont crash...anyway thats as far as i 've got with set development...what are your thoughts? my only new need is the hardware plugin player...thats pretty cool

I think one of the most fun, simple and hypnotic ways to play live is to chop up loops out of your tracks... like a kick loop, bass loop, a few lead loops, different drum elements looped, along with some samples placed alaong a midi keyboard to trigger whenever you feel like it.

Using Ableton is now probably the best way to do this. I used to do it all on outboard gear and as long as you practice a lot and are familiar with what each loop is, you can keep the music flowing and changing. Its a good idea to setup filters over a lot of the sounds so you can introduce the sound down in the low mids, add a hi hat, raise the cutoff up a bit, drop the kick out, add another rhythm loop, bring the cutoff right up and drop in the kick and another loop, etc. etc. This is really powerful stuff provided your loops are catchy.

Withthat method you can play a single part of a track as long as you like, reading the dance floor you can decide that this part isn't working so wuickly move on.

That's my favourite way.

Alot of dudes just play backing tracks and trigger a few sounds over the top (or pretend to):)
