login cookie problem

by mistake, in my prefernces, i chose the option of "always store my username in a cookie for one year"....so now, whenever i enter the site, i'm already logged in...but i dont want to be automatically logged in all the time...what do i do??
i did try going back to prefernces and changing the option, but it doesnt happen..           a dream which is not understood, is like a letter which is not opened

tryed to clear cookies?           Always agressive never progressive.
