hi
i have recently bought a new macpro with two dual core duo intel xeons runnig at 3.00Ghz..with 4Gb 667MHz DDR2 fully buffered ECC ram ...i want to buy either logic/cubase for it..can someone tell me which of these sequencers is more suited to the new intel based macs and any impressions you might have had while using logic and cubase or both on a mac.since this software is very costly ..cubase 4 is $799 and logic 7 Pro is $999..i would like to hear your thoughts etc before investing even more of my money into this(i am a poor student so spending all this money on a mac has raped my wallet) the computer has already set me back $7600...i have some old macie active monitors and an oxygen midi keyboard so the only thing i need to add is some software... the logic express is only $299..i also want to know if this would be sufficient enough for my needs..
ok before carying on ...i am new to music production and used to play with fruity loops and garage band before ....i am mainly into graphic design but recently have got more into music..also psytrance is not the only music i am interested in producing....
And why is logic $200 more than cubase??
anyway your thoughts would be very much appreciated..and especiaaly if all the producers and artists on this site can give me some professional advice..
thanks

Logic gives u all the plugs u ever needed, included in the program, and it's simply the best sequencer proggy outthere

And you can import garageband songs

Cubase 4 is still buggy by the sounds of it, but in my opinion having worked with Cubase for many years and recently with Logic 7.2, Cubase SX3 is more reliable, less buggy, easier to use (in most areas!)and just as powerful as Logic, if not slightly more so (offline process history, macros, better zooming, fewer automation bugs).

Just my opinion though, YMMV.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

If you're on a Mac, I'd go for Logic. I heard that Cubase doesn't run so well on Macs as it does on PCs... could well be untrue though. I use Logic Express, and I love using it. I've never used Cubase, so I can't compare those. If you've never done music on a computer before, or if you're worried about money, for sure go for Logic Express and also buy Battery 2 to go with it for drums(you can't load you're own samples into the sampler provided with Logic Express, which seriously limits you!). Apart from that though, Logic Express with a few freeware effects and synths has everything you need to start making music!

hey guys thanks a lot for your replies....
im definetly leaning towards logic and as HaKa suggested Logic 8 is coming out soon so ill wait for that...cos i just read that logic 7 is not as good on the intel based macs..its actually much better on powermacs/g4s-g5s.....im borrowing the universitys dubbing lab and checking out both cubase and logic and it does seem to me that logic is easier to use....or maybe thats just me..
Undertow running windows on a mac sucks ..rosetta sucks ...
once again thanks guys...
any more thoughts/advice in the interim??

Don't think any of them is better, and if you're not used 2 any of them, i think things in Logic just work more "Logical"...but before this is going 2 be another, which is better thread, try both proggys in your school, and you'll know what suits u best...           http://www.myspace.com/descargaelectrica

I agree with points that both cardinals and colin brought up, personally i think its all a matter of taste.. some drivers like a raw car without the traction control and 7.1 cinema suround sound (porche, logic)... but on the other hand any sports car enthusiast will say the s55(merc, cubase) is the dogs bollocks...

which ever u chose, make sure your enjoying the drive!!

If you are talking value/money relations, then obviously a $999 Logic is better than $799 Cubase.

Logic comes with lots of plugins ( which are very good too IMO) and lots of Virtual Instruments (Including IR reverb...). And to add on that, an EXS24 sampler.

And where did anyone here hear about Logic 8 from?

If u take a look at Logic 7 and Cubase 4 specs, u will find very similar sequencers(including plugins and effects).

I´ve been using both of them, and I can tell u that they are just great.

My tip is: if u are old skool guy, who worked a lot with hardwares midi sequencers and all this stuff, go for Logic. FOr me it has more this feelling.
But if u are more into new skool, computers and etc, I would go for Cubase. Very easy to use.

Little q: Do Logic sounds fatter than Cubase??? Sometimes I have this feelling....

About Logic 8: AFAIK, Logic 8 will be the first Logic 100% made by APPLE. Till now, all versions have been developed long time ago, since emagic was doing her job alone. So, even Logic 7 has some features and specs developed at early stages(when emagic was doing both Windows and MAC programs).

So I´ve been told next Logic generation will be something outstanding! SO, let´s wait...           LOADING...

Rosetta? You have an Intel PC with a (very expensive) Apple logo. You can run Windows natively.

Anyway, I was joking ... I wouldn't assume that someone that spends 7600$ on a Mac would want to run Windows as their main OS.
