Logic Users, compare bugs!

Just so you all know where I am coming from, I've been a cubase user since VST 3.5 when their tech support was calling it Very Strange Timing; for old releases of SX we may say the same thing.

So I switched over a year ago from the (then) buggy SX to LAP 5.1, quickly upgraded to 5.2; now I run 5.5.1 and don't expect any more updates.

A few things I notice and am trying to track down the causes of, Logic users, please help me by comparing my findings and telling me what you discover.

Something causes double-clicking a track in the arrange window to cause the audio object not to focus in the environment (mixer). I have this anomaly in a track without any spinAudio plugins loaded.

Spin audio plugins make Logic act funny. The above mentioned quirk, as well as the scroll bar no longer scrolls.

I switched over to using PC/AV after having no luck with ASIO. Rewire would give me an overload message if I moved a note while the track was playing. Switching to PC/AV helps but after doing some work my audio sputters, like I ran out of buffers. So I increased the buffers and it just happens a little later.

(to motivate you?) I am now checking out SX 1.06, complete with many MIDI plugins that do similar things I am interested in using the environment for. Rewire works, I have 40 tracks loaded with 7 VSTIs (not absynth) with no problems. Screensets work, the only thing crashing the app so far are naughty plugins.

If any of you can contribute to this thread please do, I am in California and many of my friends are not on similar setups.

Athlon 1Ghz, Asus A7A266 (not XP, 2 years old)
120GB/60GB 7200 RPM WD drives
512MB RAM (one stick, i know i know)
SB Live (value)
Audiophile 24/96 (output on AP 1/2)
standard PC mode. no COM1, COM2, LPT1, redirected to audio hardware (print thru the nic)

Thanks, and keep trackin!
-Michael.

np.

when I start a new song I can make audio objects and in the arrange window I double-click the corresponding track and the mixer will appear with the object I double-clicked (in arrange) focused--highlighted and centered. SX does this also if you hit F3 with a track selected.

Somewhere in my scoring this double-click stops working. Seems like the perfect time to stop when I have tracks out of order in arrange and now I have a harder time getting to that audio obj. Spin Audio plugins (for me) seem to trigger this behavior, don't know what else does but there are some strange things brewin'

any better?

I don't have that bug sorry mate.

I don't understand why do u double click anything in order to show it in the mixer... I click once.           Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

Now this is news to me.. You click once in the arrange window and the mixer appears? When I click once on a track in arrange it focuses the track there so I can play it. It does not bring up the mixer. Double-clicking that does; at least for me in my world.

curious. You are on 5.5.1 also? what version of the spinAudio plugins do you have installed and did you try it with the spinAudio plugs like the 3dDelays?

Thanks for lookin.

Oh your talking about opening the mixer window... Sure u need to double click. But I left that way of working long time ago

I have set up the autoload that way so the mixer Strip channel is allways floating on the left side. and whenever I click a track, I immediately see its mixer track on the left where I can edit all I need. Plus if I need to see the whole mixer, I just set it on a whole different screen set.

Thanks much for the replies, Philip and nectarios. As much as I like the plugs, I only use them now in SX which seems to like them better. There are several in SX that crash the host also (waves R-EQs intermittently, my preference is the Q# parametric EQs anyway--I hardly notice them)

[I prefer the visual when it comes to EQing for some reason I feel I can depict what I am hearing if I use something like the Q# or the Firium which has a great analyzer behind the controls but Firium has no VST automation data [hrmph]]

One other thing I noticed; again this is sometime after I am working for a while and reorg my memory--is that sometimes my VST plugin/insturment gets frozen in the state it is in. You guys ever notice this? You are both using 5.5.1?

Moving to ASIO--I appreciate the interest. I don't know if it is the AP drivers or what; I have disabled the SB card to make sure it is not the culprit (they are isolated on their own IRQ/DMA in standard PC mode) SX runs ASIO no prob, rewire 2 no problem. Logic runs rewire1 with heavy dropouts and maxes out my CPU to overload when I move a note. I have tried upping the buffer, then syncing the buffer sizes--in Logic nothing seems to help. PC/AV seems to stutter doing this buffer thing but rewire1 runs better so I use it.

SB Live? Well, I have a Nord Modular which I am trading in; looking into a dual-proc athlon MP or opteron if the price is right (anyone have one of these? AMD760MPX B2).

I used the SB midi as general midi since the AP had to handle the sysex for the NM to work in a session. Its been a while since I pulled the card out so it is worth a try.

I'll make sure to post my crash -- er I mean track when I get it sounding better. Thanks again for the attention.

So Philip, what audio interface are you using?

Leon, all of the same problems that I mentioned? Sounds like I may be calling M-Audio in Arcadia. Good for us it is a local call for me here in cali

Keep the reports coming and keep supporting the PC... maybe Apple will realize their mistakes in dropping LAP 6 from the PC. crossgrade my patootie!

exactly the ones you described, for me it's a long distance call , M-Audio Canada is in Montreal and my French sucks

btw someone told me that if i change the MiDi clock settings in Syncronization it should help, but it didn't .

hi all
it seems to me everyone who's on 5.5.1 is talking about bugs & crashs
i'm still on 5.5.0 and have none of all this and the logic plugs all work, so what's so crucial with 5.5.1?            :: We are here to do it, so let's not loose time !

I work on 5.5.1
I don't have any bugs - so it's just fine.           Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...
