It's worth checking out, I keep hearing decent things from others about it... I might just have to hackintosh it and see how it works...

What a smart thing to do from Apple. Drop the price down 50% and take off the copy protection (well yeah, there's the registration key, but hey...)
I bet the sales of Apple are going to rise with this one.
But with a short calculation I don't think that buying Pro Mac + Logic 8 is any cheaper than buying a equivalent PC + Cubase 4...
Still this makes you wonder weather to buy a new PC or a Pro Mac. I just hate the way Apple puts extra price with everything in their computers. Hard drives, memory units, graphics cards.. Everything is much more expensive compared to same hardware for pc.
Maybe it's finally a time to try to install osx on pc based computer, as the processors and RAMs and stuff are now similar... |

mac is mac.... have been confused by how expensive they are for a while now.... but once u switch to mac i guarantee u wont go back to pc... they are definitely worth the extra money..... and logic studio is going to conquer all... not only in the electronic music domain but also as a hard disk recorder/sequencer/editor.... even digidesign/protools should be worried now with logics new tdm compatibilty and time streching and editing capabilities

Actually I don't like mac that much, though we use macs here at school daily. All our studios are equipped with macs, but I still prefer pc for better usability.
Logic is cool though, we use it at my friends studio for production, but I still prefer Cubase because of for example right-click-options for audio editing. And to be honest, my pc with Cubase is more stable than my friend's mac with Logic.
The offer of Logic 8 is still tempting... |

Logic is definitely making people switch over from PCs to Macs. I know I did.
Getting a Mac and the full version of Logic 8 can cost as much (through the educational discount store) as £719! (MacBook 2ghz Core Duo £601 and Logic Studio £118).
That includes a great DAW, great sounding soft synths, massive sound and sample instrument library and great sounding processing plug ins.
Calculate the price for a similar spec PC laptop, Cubase SX and then add the cash you'd pay to equal the quality of Logic's soft synths and processing plugs and that kind of sound and sample instruments library (both in terms of quality and quantity).
I know Macs are generally more expensive, but its no where near as bad as it used to be. Younger people (or people that have friends in higher education) can buy stuff through the educational discount store. My quad 2.66 ghz MacPro was £1700 and I got it for £1370. That was my Focusrite Saffire's cash right there.
Yes PCs are still cheaper (especially when you look at desktops), but like I said before, the difference is not as bad as it used to be.
I used to be a PC fanatic for years before I switched over from Logic 5.5 on the PC to Logic 7 on the Mac and I am not going to bullshit you with the typical stuff Mac owners post on the internet. Macs crash and they are not any better computer than a decent PC. I made the jump because of Logic and no other reason.
What you are paying for when you get a Mac, is the software (including the fantastic OS), the design (the cool factor, whatever that is amongst computer geeks anyway) and the support...which is a bit bollocks when you could sort things out on your PC on your own, but some people, mainly pros, simply hate dealing with computer issues.
Needless to say that if I knew Cubase inside out and had streamlined my way of working around it, I would not bother with a Mac. Great sounding 3rd party plugs are abundant for that platform. But I went down the Logic path years ago and to be honest, I don't mind having payed a bit of extra cash, as I've made that and more back from my latest gig (did the music for Dole's TV commercial) and I get to be on Logic still today.

I just thought I would let you guys know that logic studio is already available on the web... yeah.. already... apple seriously fucked up with this no dongle protection.. I am one of those who paid for the software and I seriously dont like the idea of everyone using it for free the same way I had to pay for it.. and the dongle protection gives the user who buys a feeling of exclusivity...
oh well.. nothing is perfect.. |

PsYx... thing is that Logic pro wasn't hacked because of the dongle. So I guess removing the dongle opened the pipe... the dongle is a hassle though to legit users too as I heard - all kinds of hardware issues...

But lookin on the other side all this dongles was driving me crazy.. if Logic 8 required I would need to get mot ports on my machine... hehe..
Cubase 4 Dongle
iKey Dongle for some Sonnox plugs...
and if it was necessary, Logic 8 dongle..
too many really... |

But lets be real.. apple is not that stupid.. they KNEW this was going to happen.. it happened with the new iLife 08... in 2 days it was on the web..
so in my opinion they wanted this to happen.. maybe they're trying to get new users, the lower price, almost no crack protection... makes me wonder... |

I think u'll be surprised how many will go mac....
A lot of people still using Logic 5.5 on pc, just because they like the way logic works...
Now they will have an extra 'push' in the back to go for a mac i think...

Mubali, I've tried installing such a mac on a pc a year ago when it was rather new, it was pretty slow and many stuff didn't work.
I don't know how it is today, but I'm sure a new mac would work twice better...

read up on in on the interweb. apparently it can be a real pain in the ass to get to work (for one thing you have to circumvent OSX's ablility to recognize non Mac hardware and refuse to install), and then you've got the somewhat serious problem of practically no device drivers for anything, even basic things, much less being able to pass 44.1 stereo sound from an app. Other than that it sounds great!
