Hello, I'm having a hard time figuring out why the sidechain keeps popping every time the kick hits? the only way to get rid of it is to add attack, but then when I add attack it just defeats the purpose of sidechaining because it doesn't sidechain when I need it too. Any suggestions? |

I have to take off like 16 ms to stop the popping, which is a big difference for bass frequencies to get squashed to prevent phasing. Also, even if the sound was somewhat masked by the kick (which its not, you can hear it quite a bit, shifting the kicks high end sound) what if I want the bass going solo? I'd hear the popping then. |

at 16ms attack, it is unlikely for the compressor to create artifacts in sound. Probably your compressor settings are too extreme.

Don't overcompress the chained sound. I had such a problem when I started using sc.
Try thresh around -20db, attack 3ms, release 30ms, ratio 8:1 and than start fine tuning them.

+1. I use a low ratio fastest attack and everything drops the way I want it to. I don't want it to be completely transparent, I like a bit of pumping, but just slight. Don't over do it as well, the only times I drop the gain more than 3dB is on drum loops that have little hits in them that I want to loose and I can't be asked to edit audio at every kick trigger, layered sub lines on non 16th single saw basslines and on pads and long delay/reverb effects so I purposely drop the gain more and make the effect more apparent.
But the old platinum circuit is generally the way to go for clean results.
