same with Protools HD

The most stable System in my experience is Windows 7 x64 beside the Roland MV8000 i had

What he said, my old PC with Logic 4.x and 5.x crashed a lot less times than Logic 7/8 on my MacPro.

I made the switch a year or two ago, went through the process of certification. It's a deep program, the environment has more features than you could possibly imagine.

That said, I'm still convinced that there isn't a DAW out there with better sounding synths. The single-screen interface eases you into the workflow while allowing for an insane amount of customization.

Simply put it's the only tool I use to produce, though when I decide to mix down or pre-master I generally will bounce stems and bring them into ProTools 8.

i use logic and find it to have a really nice user interface compared to ableton and especially cubase. it really fits the way i like to make tracks.
but logic 9 on 10.6 is not stable ime. logic 8 on 10.5 was rock solid, logic 9 on 10.5 was ok, but since i updated to 10.6 it crashes often.
today i forgot that i shouldn't load synths while logic is playing and lost 2 hours of work that way...

windows 7 x64 has been rock solid for me for a very, very long time. The whole 'mac is more stable than pc' argument is bullshit in my experience - plus I don't have to pay 2-3x more for similar hardware            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

not if you have a MOTU like I do!

I'm back on XP32 on my laptop and Hackintosh on my desktop and loving life.

I see no reason to ever go to win7.

at least not until Service Pack 3 or 4 or 5.....           Quantum Frog / Anomalistic

Excuse my ignorance, but what is windows 7??

Getting more serious... i do hate how Logic appoach some process like copies of audio regions, pitch shift, no chord/scale libraries

But most of all apple loops.... to my eyes its kinda "racist" and stupid. There is a zillion of people who own a vast collection of samples before the apple loop concept was born. what about us?

Do Apple geniuses really think we have the time to convert 3-4 Terabytes of loops... file by file transient by transient ??? Loops and samples in general are conceived to make us live easier, save us time! Using non apple loops in Logic is quite the opposite

Copying regions, are you serious? For pitch shifting audio, I use the pitch shift plug in, it does the trick for me, although it changes the sound quite a bit for anything basically over/under 3 semitones, so I do have to "conceal" the messiness.
You can still import rex files in EXS24 just like you did back in the day...I am not sure if you can still drag and drop into an audio channel in teh arrangement though...

for pitch shifting you can with radius or soundtoys speed if i m right
for me the cons are it s the hardest daw to learn in my experience,it seems very deep and sometimes not really logical when coming from other daws.

Im serious Disco H!

Im talking about how Logic handles "copies" of audio regions, not actually copying them in the arrange... lets say we have our kick track with one region every quarter and then we decide to have a reverse kick at the end of the bar, we have to:

Create a new file out of a copy
Rename it
Save it
Enter the editor
Reverse it

Its way to many clicks for a very simple process, in Cubase you set a key command to do that kind of edition, very easy!!!

Same goes to pitch shift, cubase pitch device have a lot more options right away in your arrangement, no need for loading plugins, automate em or loading the sound onto a sampler

Just like Cubase, you can set your own key commands, and you can just as easily set keycommands to create a new instance of the file, so you can non-destructively edit audio in Logic. The only separation with Cubase is the first time you do some sort of audio editing or processing on the file, it give you the option to create new version each time. You could set that same thing in Logic as a keycommand, and maybe even a macro... I'll look into it the next time I'm using Logic.
