ok i use logic 5.2.
i use the logic synth Es2 for my basselines.
When i open the track i am working on i notice that the filter cut-off on my basseline has moved, for instance i get either a very muddled sound or the filter is way too high.
basically it is a pain in the ass cause i have to set the filter cut-off at the right value every time i open my track.
Is there any way around it??
I also have a problem with my kicks in logic. Let's say i am playing a looped measure (4 kicks): when i press play the first kick that i hear is very muddled, but then all the other kicks play fine. Does it has anything to do with my compressor setting ?? (i usually use EQ and compressors on kicks) |

About the cut off - Add a "command" in the Window with the commands ( i dont remember it's name right now, its the window with all the things u did on the midi ) and write there that u want the cut off ( or whatever bugging you ) to be at whatever amount u want, before the tracks starts, works great ( i havent used logic for more then 6 months or so, thats why i dont rmemember.. but it works, i promise... )
AND! about the other thing:
as i understand, only the bass kick of the 1st bar is like that (when u press play, it's kinda "muted" or something.. ) it's a problem with logic, i dont know why... there r 2 things u can do about it..
1) start playing before the kick ( move the locater about half a bar back )
2) move the base 1/32 or even 1/64 forword. it's not quantized, yeah, but it doesnt seem to bug any1, esspecially when it's only 1/64 late...
i hope i helped! |

about the 1st problem: use "save preset as" option after you setup your es2 the way you want it. then after the project loads you should load the preset.
about the 2nd problem:
this can be because you didn't put the loop locator in the exact point => zoom in horizontally, and see where the line of the loop boundary is located, if not in the proper place - move it with "command"[or "alt" if it a pc] key + drag.
and if it's because the fx initialize - move the whole project to forward 4 bars.
hope this was helpfull |

ok,
I recon Logic 5.2 has a problem with the filter settings of ES2. Try to save the preset and see if it helps, if not I suggest u upgrade to 5.3 or 5.5.
about the kick, it just might be your audio driver that initializes when u press play - that's wht logic does when u press play is to intialize everything.
try to play the loop a bit from outside of it just to see if it helps. something like bilbo said.

I think this is a 'crack' bug.
Saving the preset, won't help, I gess. although you should try it.
But why don't you automate the cutoff?
I've tryed all Logic versions since 4.0 and above 5.1.3 I had this problem too. That's why I'm still using it (5.1.3). Though, it can be a 'setup' difference, from computer to computer. I have a friend that's using 5.5 with no problems at all.
About the loop question, ...try to make a bigger loop, 4 measures or something!

thanks guys for the replies
I already saved my presets so that won't help.
I 'll try to automate the cutoff but i am not sure that will help either.
Oh and i have a big problem with my CPu usage in logic. I have a pentium 3 866 mghz, 256 mb RAM and a sound card ECho Mia.
Basically inside Logic i can only have 5 sounds, each with a couple of inserts effects. Usually i can not make a track more than 2 m ins long.
So my question is: will my problem be solved if i buy a pentium 4 2.4 giga with 512 gb RAm?? |

the es2 problem is a bug in the crack...... as everyone has already said, nothing u can try will fix this (preset save, cut off automation etc.)
i already posted this sometime ago and there is no other solution (that i know of) other that to upgrade to 5.3 or 5.5... no probs with either of those versions. : )
regarding the kick problem,.... for me its a soundcard driver/latency issue.
just get used to it and work around it (it only happens on the first play yes? - i mean, once it has looped back to the start it sounds ok?)
it should play when u go to bounce, so no problems really
if u can only have 5 channels running, i would be looking into possible hardware conflicts.
(5 channels of audio or instruments?)
ive only got a P3 1000 Mhz, but in my current track there is about 40 audio channels, 10 vsti's, 3 different reverbs, heaps of inserts etc.
so it definately sounds like something aint right in your system.
good luck : )

I think you might need to let the track play for a couple of seconds before any instruments. Dont start it at 1- slide the time bar "-" a few seconds and this might fix your problem

thanks azz, i'll look into getting logic 5.3 or 5.5.
about my CPU overload, i am currently making a track using 6 or 7 vsti's a bunch of inserts and a couple of audio tracks. but i need more...
What could be the problem with my system??
i am using Windows XP by the way... |

'bounce down' your live synths when you have them perfect and run them as wav files in your audio channels. This will fix the problem until you can work out what is really happening.
Maybe you are having conflict between your mother board and your cpu.

i ve got a 900 mhz /512sdram ( logic 5.5 on w2k )and with 6/7 vsti's, depends on what type and naturally nr of voices, and some inserts my system is hangn too...a matter of cpu...i think all is ok with ur pc...
---> like azz written u ve to bounce...

actually i do bounce tracks to audio. But once i bounce a couple of tracks i usually need to remove my vsti's and inserts to make sure my CPU doesn't go nuts with overload messages... i find that it is a bit annoying to have to bounce evrything to audio. Let's say i bounce a lead melody: then i work more on the track and i need more sounds, meaning more vsti's, i am going to have to remove that lead sound. And then if i need that sound again i am going to have to save all my presets which i find confusing.
Besides i cannot use too many automation either cause of "asio overload" messages.
So do you guys think that switching from pentium 3 866 mghz to pentium 4 2.4 mghz will solve my asio overload problem?? |

...asio-problem seem strange to me...don t know...maybe driver ( latest one ?)
--> the vsti's which are on the bounced tracks should be removed (...or bypassed. in logic bypassed plugs use 0% cpu ---> automate them if track is unused ), otherwise it takes no effect.
look at "systemperformance" in logic to chk which plugs forces your pc into knees. and take care on voices and unisono...
if u use xp and logic 5.5...u need a fast pc...
don t forget that if u like to get a faster cpu u need to update the mainboard too...

I have to say I dont know your soundcard so I cant help with that... Yes buy a 2.4 pentium this will change your life for sure although may not solve all your problems if ur soundcard is not good enough or if u dont have the latest drivers... hope this helps,,,PEACE |
