| Here's another issue I have with Logic: Yes the environment is very powerful and you can do wonderful routing things with it, but let's say I want more than 30 audio channels and I haven't set up my autoload, or I want more buses than I have already in the environment. I then have to stop what I'm doing, go into the environment and make more audio objects and route them, yada yada yada...

mubali,
just for reference,
Logic doesnt use up CPU power for channels that are not used in the arrangement.
You can make an Autoload that maxes out the channels.
You wont have to worry about setting them up later, but the Audio Environment will become a bit large.
It won't impact performance tho.
To get back to the discussion, the choice indeed depends on how you (are used to) work.
Personaly i find Cubase confusing in a lot of ways but i have heared Cubase lovers claim the same thing.

Somewhere up there Greg (Mubali) posted that you can route a bus to another bus in Logic 8
Just informing you that this is now possible in Cubase 4
You can also route a bus to an audio track and record it as well.
Also since Cubase 4.5.2 I have no issues with stability what so ever. I have not had one single crash while working on music
on Vista or XP. ~Airyck~

I have been using Cubase Sx 3 for a long time and am used to its workflow, the audio editing , time stretching features, offline processing etc.. to a point where i wanted to try out something new....Thats when i decided to buy a macbook pro and got Logic 8 installed on it , i got a couple of tutorial videos on Logic 8 which im checking out these days , as of what i understand Logic is easier to use then Cubase sx3 , its just different and in that sense both of them have their own good to offer..Logics builtin effects are solid while audio editing is not that great imo. That being said i want to intergrate both sequencers in my studio setup and use both of their strengths so i feel im not being deprived of much. Using Ableton as a rewire in cubase also yields some good results .... Basically my point is to use Logic for my main song arrangements but if needed i can work some audio layers in cubase , rewire and what not..

Just recently bought Cubase 4. After being so u used to Sx3..... im quite liking it. Especially a much more bright interface.. and some really nice inbuilt synths with looooads of presets. But sometimes i do come across some occassional unwanted clicks and noises, whcih i never faced in Sx3. Ive downloaded the receent update... so will see how that one goes now. And some of the vsts are not yet compatible with 4 .. for ex im having a problem loading Waves diamond bundle, whereas th mercury one works fine. the same case with Stylus rmx. Anybody else facing this problem???
But apart from that, i should say that im pretty much likin it. The best imo, as Thomas said, is to integrate other hosts as well for best results.
Peace!

I did not Use Cubase 4 but I know version 3 very well.
I use Logic to me and its better to me because of the plugins that comes with it, the automations, and the whole midi implementation Midi's got more options and easier... Lets not forget that logic has got an environment that you can create to suit your studio needs. cubase works differently. I know many are banging on the audio editing but I don't think its an issue it works just fine and its good enough to edit. easily and yes its different.
Performances: I run a hackintosh which is resonably powerfull but nothing too costy or out of touch. Logic runs perfectly its very stable... unlike version 7
Now i just wonder how many people posting on this thread have actually really worked with logic 8 or 7 ? |

A friend of mine who has been a diehard Logic user has told me he's been a little disappointed with Logic 8. Can't recall his gripes, as we were both drunk as hell when talking about it. Seriously though, take the time to try demo's of both, because they both are great programs, it just comes down to personal preference.
The original questions was on MAC platform only, but some windows apps have come up.
Sonar, in my opinion, is just as good as Cubase, and offers much better plugins out of the box. Information about Sonar is not nearly as prevalent on the web as Cubase. Cakewalk tends to listen to their customers alot more than Steinberg.

I worked with Logic 8, and I have to say that the workflow is as smooth as ever, even more so. Some of the things that everyone configured as defaults became defaults, the visual streamlining is wonderful and intuitive, and the audio editing is much improved. Cubase feels heavier, more technical and less exciting to work with. But the most people like to give extra thought to audio tweaking nowadays, where that workflow is just about right.
I'll add that if you are considering work with Cubase, you may as well consider Ableton as well, because it's audio features and workflow are very competative. My choice is with Logic, it just feels like a more complete package when making music in my experience... But then again, I'm not much of an audio fan (up to the final stages of the track).
