depends on what all you wanna do. If you don't have very many AU synths and fx processors, Logic has by far the best out of the box plugs with perhaps the exception of protools. If you are more into doing lots of audio tricks, Cubase would be the easier method to do a lot of it. Ideally, it would be great to be able to use both for their respective strengths...           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

Mubali, would you say that (in a way) Logic is for the musician while Cubase is (in a way too) stronger with Audio manipulations?           YEEEEES!

quick and short: logic

about that audio editing thingy, you can set up soundtrack pro as external waveditor where offline processing with plugins is possible...problem solved           https://soundcloud.com/hazak

Cubase is more versatile and userfriendly and has more useful features as well.

true but it's not as fast as cubase... you can't beat right click, add effect, tweak and done... Plus Logic has a limitation on how far you can timestretch something.. only to 200% when you drag it, cubase does not have this limitation. Plus the pitch envelope in cubase is more intuitive than logic's is and it's also way easier to experiment with. That being said, I like Ableton's a lot more than cubase's but it's nice to have things available quickly in order to keep a fast workflow. But Logic's native plugins are way way better than all of cubase's put together, with the possible exception of the quadrafuzz.... Also soundtrack pro is a pretty clunky audio editor. If you're gonna use a 3rd party audio editor, might as well use one that will show you bars and beats...

Personally I like doing things in a little steps as possible, that way I can spend more time on more interesting things when making music. Eventually I would love to have a setup where I have 2 computers, one to run logic and to basically do all the arrangement, and one to run cubase and just send audio in between the two... set up a network share folder and just drag them between the two... But in the end, it's not like you can't make really good music with one or the other. I'm just more partial to my workflow in Cubase as opposed to my workflow in Logic.           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

seems people actually recomending Logic arent really stating any objetive reason for it. And having to use an external audio editor? i didnt know u had to do that in Logic, for that reason alone i wouldn tthink to make the move..           www.soundcloud.com/elektroakustica/sets/downtempo/

like always, its just about what you need and prefer, and especially how you see the things.

I agree about the offline processing, its a bit of a hassle with using stpro (A BIT, since you can send the regions between the apps in a second with just one click, without using the finder), but the thing that bugs me especially is the total missing ability of doing pitch bends with audio regions in logic (except using workarounds like sampling with esx24). both are due since long time.

but on the other hand, logic has again some other big advantages compared to cubase...its just about what you want and need like I said.           https://soundcloud.com/hazak

hey man! i agree with you..since cubase 4 its really worth it?cause sx3 was way more limited then logic was to that time..no true sidechining or flexible routing like in logic, wich is quite essential these days..but now we can play on the same level..with these features..even the plugins are not that bad..vst3 is even good enough to do mastering with..well,logic got a bunch more plugins..thats for sure..but i wouldn`t say that those in logic are much better...just more..imho

i`ve been working with logic 7 quite a while and then switched to cubase 4..i have had a good workflow in logic so in cubase now,but i tried to get back into logic..but couldn`t get into the new one anymore..would take me so long and imo..its not worth it to loose the time..and anyway..i`m so satisfied with cubase that i wouldn`t think of switching..maybe into live..but even, not for serious producing..don`t like the audio editing in live, but thats maybe even workflow related..for performance its the only way to go,again..imo

I used to use Logic 5.5 until some friends "forced" me to switch to Cubase.
Actually, I still use SX 3, and now that I figured out the whole sidechain thing, I really don't feel limited with it at all. I have used sx4 quite a few times and felt relatively comfortable with it too, but I've also used Logic 8 as well and they both are great, it just really depends on how you like to work. Since the only thing I leave in midi is the bassline, it just makes sense for me to keep with Cubase at this point in time. If Logic ever did just a few more features like unlimited timestretch, pitch envelope, automation waveforms and an easier routing situation for plugins like the destroy fx midi gater and whatnot, I'd probably switch back to Logic in a heartbeat... Of course this would require me to buy a mac first....           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

just to clarify mubali, some of these things are in a way possible:

1. you got unlimited timestretch in the waveditor.

2. automation waveforms you dont have directly, but you can for example convert the data of an audio region to track automation.
