We have been experiencing sloppy sync problems when using hardware, and the timing on external midi just doesnt feel as tight as it did before.
I've been trying to find more info, and came across threads like: http://www.gearslutz.com/board/music-computers/130276-fyi-logic-does-not-support-hardware-midi.html which has me slightly concerned.
Basically, even a logic developer has admitted that apple is mainly developing the plugin/software side, not giving much priority to streamlining hardware performance with logic 8, which raises my eyebrow since logic was first and foremost a platform to sequence your hardware and has since evolved into the fully integrated platform of today.
I've been trying to tweak settings, enabling/disabling plugin delay compensation, and manually adding a delay compensation to outgoing midi etc, but so far haven't been able to get everything timed tight and stable.
Anybody here work with logic 8 and a combination of lots of hardware & software/plugins/powercores etc who has been having these issues too, and maybe has some solutions or tips? |

That thread is talking about Logic 7.
I don't know what's going on with 8 in that matter - some folks claim everything's fine.
Sorry... I hope you can solve this prob.

Indeed, allthough the last few posts are about logic 8. Its weird, some people report having no problems, while some people still have timing issues.
From what i can gather, it seems to be an issue with plugin delay compensation, since it will adjust the signal timing to get to 0 latency, yet for external midi you will have to tweak this manually.
Also it seems that maybe some of the 3rd party plugins might be misreporting their latency to logic resulting in a slight drift.
Another issue seems to be that logic now gives full priority to audio/plugins, which means that once you start to max your processors it will re-allocate and prioritize system resources for audio, resulting in unstable external midi timing. And this cannot be altered in preferences or settings.
The only workarounds i've found is just record with latency and nudge the recordings a bit to get them snapping solid onto the grid. Seems that most of the time a 1/32 step does the job.
Doesnt work for synced drums, arpeggios or sequences since they tend to drift and slur a bit once timing goes wonky.

I was just wondering if you are using automap? I am facing that problem with my novation remote SL37.
And a questions to those who don't have that problem: How are your interfaces connected?
-USB? if so: are you using usb hubs?
-Fire wire?
-pc cards?
Trying to narrow down this issue.

i have this kind of problems with virus ti but if its to record a audio file from the sinth , doesn't mather how you hear it when you record it .when u bounce it u add thefile to a audiotrack and slice the file to fit into the right position.
this is something that happen somethimes, but notice that if you open a new song midi timing works fine

Found a solution for my setup:
Got a new interface.
Before I was using an edirol UA25 via USB.
Now I am using a M-Audio Profire 2626 via firewire and everything is TIGHT! Finally
Would br interesting to know if this was caused by poor engineering, software or USB vs Firewire.
