hey all : )

currently running LAP 5.3 and a Tascam USB 428 external soundcard.
now what i would like to do is set up my audio instruments to trigger from different midi ports, not different midi channels.

the tascam has 2 different midi ports, so i want to say trigger audio instrument 1 from midi port 1, and audio instrument 2 from midi port 2.
(so 2 different ppl can be playing 2 different vsti's at the same time)

ive checked the parameters box in the arrange window, and the only function i can see to change is the midi channel......

the 'midi out' channels give me the option of choosing which ports to send and receive on, but that same function doesnt seem to be available for the audio instruments.
so, is this an environment problem?
ive never had to delve into the world of the logic environment, so id be greatful for any help!

oh, and one more thing, if i get this to work, how can i select multiple channels to play different vsti's at the same time? (and record diff. midi at the same time?)
(the channel needs 2 be selected in order to trigger it externally,.... holding down 'shift' and clicking multiple channels doesnt do the trick......)

cheerz cobberz : )

Of course u'll enviroment for that - don't ask me how - I don't know

I don't think u can play 2 instruments at the same time - just like u can't select 2 channels tracks at once. But I heard it might be possible with some hardcore enviroment programming.

hope u succeed.           Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

thanks philip.

regarding the 2 instruments at once thing, i find it really hard to believe this isnt possible?
my Cubase buddy assures me its totally do-able in
SX, thought for sure logic would allow it to....

ok, time 2 dive into the environment then...... : )

...try this (...not shure if it s the right way, never done by myself)

open environment window
--> choose "klick & port" menu
----> generate as much midi-monitors as u need using "new --> monitor"
make connections from the output of the physical-input to your monitor.
finally make connection to the seq-in to record.

or if this don t work, chk:

open environment window
--> new multi-instrument
activate a channel with a button ( 1-16 )
choose midi-port

play around...one of this (...or a combination of both )
should work...

...good luck...

I found this for ya - this works on two separate midi channels - but it all depends what u connect in the enviroments after all. Try to work it out to different cards if u want so much:

First of all, I have to thank Brian at Emagic USA Tech Support; during an
Online conversation Brian figured this out and gave me his blessing to post
it to the group.

For those of you who have wanted to be able to play/layer multiple
softsynths live, this is the procedure:

MACINTOSH
1) Create a MIDI Instrument in the Environment, and cable it to all the
Audio Instruments you want to play simultaneously.

2) Insert the I/O Plugin on each Audio Instrument _EXCEPT_ the first Audio
Instrument. Set an Input and Output on each I/O Plugin, then bypass the
plugin.

3) Select the MIDI Instrument in the Arrange, and hit Play or Record and
play your multiple softsynths in realtime!

WINDOWS
1) The same instructions as above, except for #2 above you need to place the
I/O Plugin on ALL Audio Instruments, including the first one.

This procedure also allow you to change AI tracks while playing without any
audio glitches or cutouts. If you want to get deeper into the environment,
you can create splits, layers, etc. with transformers and channel splitters.

There are a couple of catches:
* Logic must be in Play or Record for this to work. If you're looking for
non-stop performance, just running Logic in a short cycle will do the trick.
* Keeping synths "live" like this has a heavier CPU load than simply normal
playback, so be forewarned.
